When I first heard about this I thought it was a good idea, but after
thinking it through I'm questioning what the purpose of occupying the
Rose Parade would be? Secondly, would it be easy enough for the public
to make the connection between the Rose Parade and what we are
fighting for, or would they view it as more of an annoyance. If we
march against banks, then it's obvious, but when it comes to the
Parade would we be alienating potential recruits rather than moving
our agenda forward ????

My second point, separate and apart from my questions above... We will
have a lot of people in town from out of town around the time of the
Rose Parade. It might be a good time for us to help educate the public
about what we are doing and why we are doing it. It could be a good
opportunity for us to offer classes, hand out educational material,
etc.

Third idea: What if we produce some sort of alternative Rose Parade,
maybe highlighting the disparities between the affluent areas that the
Parade travels through and Northwest Pas for example. How about we
talk about the homeless issue that seems so pervasive here?

I guess all of this fundamentally brings into light that we should not
just be protesting but also educating. Maybe we should define the
types of actions that this committee should be looking to produce,
i.e.:

1. Disrupt business as usual
2. Educate
3. ... ???

Just ideas floating around in my head that we might discuss.

Overall, I find Pablo's comments right on point. Just thinking
"outloud"...

- the Rose Parade represents an enormous opportunity to reach millions
of people;
- there is a possibility we can use this opportunity to communicate/
promote Occupy values;
- if this possible communications were perceived as negative or
disruptive - off point of the parade's mission - it's probably counter-
productive;
- consequently, our efforts should be on how to use the opportunity to
"convince others" that they need to be part of the movement - they are
the 99%...in other words, as Pablo says, EDUCATION;
- therefore, the question becomes, "How do we use the opportunity of
the Rose Parade to communicate to the "unreached" 99%?"

One way to do that would be to have a float in the parade. Given that
it's PROBABLY not practical to do that, what are our other options???

FYIW, I have some high level but tenuous contacts at the Tournament of
Roses organization. Another possible resource might be Lancer Radio,
who will be streaming the Parade on New Year's day from the PCC
campus.

Do I perceive a working group to leverage the Rose Parade/Rose Bowl
event?

Just to clarify, this is an event being put on by some lawyer dood who's been doing it for years apparently,,,,So whether endorse it or not that's up to the GA, furthermore, he's probably going to come around one day and announce it or try and propose that we endorse it, which is cool, but up to the whole assembly

Enlightening. It's good to know the history and players. Can you tell
us more about this dood? How accurate is his information (I assume
you're talking about the Egyptian chap asking for support). Is there a
Nov. 12th movement, like the Oakland Strike?

Oopps. Thought I was replying to the Egyptian proposal. Sorry.
RE: Occupy Roseparade, I don't think we should "rubber stamp" someone
else's action item.
I also think there is opportunity involving the Rose Parade/Rose Bowl
that may or may not be in line with this guy's ideas. I'm for
exploring our own possible actions around this opportunity.

BTW, this thing isn't any civil disobedience, it's pretty straight forward, the guy actually called me about it:

basically, get their early when you can set up chairs along the parade route and just be there to spend the night, have a good time chillin' but take in banners and stuff like that, then during the parade show them in front of the cameras--it's not like they're blocking the parade or anything like that, i think they're just doin' their own thing, he said him and some folks did it in 2008 or something
