What: "Flash Occupying" is when the group occupies a space for one
day only.

Why: To increase visibility in the community (tents are very
visible), to educate the public and to participate in an act of civil
disobedience. Holding the activity for one day does not require as
much planning and preparation as a permanent occupation.

How: Occupiers will arrive and set up tents tarting early in the
morning and break down the occupation at sundown. When the group
arrives they will set up tents and hold a General Assembly. They will
plan other events such as educational groups, music, etc. This will
be an ongoing activity in various venues as determined by the PGA.

(I write this very fast very late. Please feel free to flesh it out.
I need signatures and want to get it to facilitation by Saturday)

Thanks!
Sharon

Sharon,

I think we might want to flush this out as a specific action through the action committee. What I mean is that we'd propose exactly what we would do at ONE of these flash occupations, so that we can answer all associated questions, such as legal issues, and give the assembly exact details about what we are proposing to do during the day of the occupation.

What do you and everyone else think?

Having said that, I think that it's a great idea and we should get to work on flushing out the the specific details of how we will accomplish this. Sharon, are you available to come to one of our weekly (Tues. @ 7pm) action committee meetings?

Sounds good. I do believe we can eventually make it into an event
that can be repeated but focusing on one thing would work well as a
trial run. I think, when it comes to legal, it's a matter of public
space or private? Do we get a permit ahead of time or surprise them?
(I like surprises)

I can't make it next Tuesday. I'd rather not give details over an
email list. Actually the only thing I can do between now and
Thanksgiving eve, is to be at the GA on Sunday.

Sorry,
Sharon

If we have the people...fuck the permit.  however, if it's only a few of us, it'd be a good idea to have a permit for protection.  That being said, I suggest we see the feeling of the group before permitting something....this recognizes the authority and legitimacy of the State as it stands...and it's ability to regulate where and how we speak out against the status quo it maintains.

And...it wouldn't be a 'flash' mob if people knew about it in advance...

Great, so maybe we can discuss this a little further on Sunday to get the ball rolling, but I just don't think that it is ready for proposal. Thoughts?

Excellent the ball is rolling. :)

So maybe use that for the break out session Sunday then come back and open up for discussion for the group?

The "flash" aspect is that we'd show up without warning.  I'm not of the "flash" generation so forgive the ignorance of protocol!  Then again.. maybe some of you know how to start a flash mob and we could use it to our advantage?

A reminder.. we still don't have a committee to set up a way to handle money and bail costs!  The lawyers help out but they don't pay the bail.  LA folks were paying $500 a piece.  I saw a video of the first eviction in Boston and they stuffed money in the hands of a Priest. I think we need another system.

On the timing we can always put up tents.. have groups, have a GA and, at the GA tell those gathered when we'll leave.  As long as we tell what we're doing before they arrive and made demands we're good.   I'm looking forward to hearing other ideas.  The more creative we are the better.
