Lodge-funded facelift to start in fall
Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital has, since 1985, been able to
offer private family rooms for terminal patients and their families.
The idea for these rooms, and funding, came from the Fidelity Lodge
32, A.F. and A.M.
Since the start of the family rooms, the Masonic lodge has been
looking after their upkeep.
The Fidelity Lodge merged with three other Masonic lodges in the area
to form Corinthian Lodge Number 27, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons
of B.C. and Yukon. (CL 27)
“They (the KBRH Health Foundation) came to us here this year and said
they were in need of some upgrading and was there any chance we could
assist them with it,” said Worshipful Master Glenn Hodge of CL 27.
The lodge announced the donation of $60,000 on August 1 for complete
updating of the family rooms at KBRH.
“There were very few places who even knew what a palliative care room
was when the Masons brought the idea of the family rooms to the
hospital and now I understand the rooms are in use almost every day
and have been for most of the 23 years we have had them,” said Chris
D’Arcy, Chair of the KBRH Health Foundation.
Also thanking the Masons was Frank Marino, Health Services
Administrator for Trail, noting this donation will bring comfort to
many patients and families during a very stressful difficult time.
Work on the upgrades to the family rooms will begin this fall and
should take two months to complete.
