FREEMASONS visiting Barnstaple Ambulance Station were able to see the
equipment they had just donated in action at first hand.

Minutes after the Devon Freemasons presented a portable ECG machine
and other life-saving equipment, a worker from a nearby business at
Roundswell walked into the station saying he was having chest pains.

South Western Ambulance Service paramedics went into action
immediately and the man was hooked up to the machine before being
taken to hospital for further checks.

"It was a perfect example of how vital this type of life-saving
equipment really is, and it is a privilege to be able to help with its
supply," said Chris Pengelly, Grand Superintendent for the Holy Royal
Arch of Devonshire.

"What better way could we make charitable donations than by helping to
save lives?"

The donation was part of the Devon Freemason's ongoing charitable
campaign to raise money to purchase equipment for ambulance stations
throughout the county.

"Their generosity will make a real difference to local communities and
although our ambulances are already kitted out with a complex variety
of kit and equipment, additional items are always welcome and will
certainly be widely used," said Carol King, operational locality
manager for the area.
