I was holding a discussion with another Brother, and to be honest I
have asked this question to many since he and I first discussed it. I
have received many different answers but not one Brother has stood
hard on his belief one way or the other. Before we dive head first
into the question, it is a simple one after all, lets understand that
this is strictly a discussion and I do not believe there to be one
simple answer, because, like most things in Masonry there are many
ways at looking at this. I also will state, before others have a
chance to bring this to my attention, that yes I do believe there are
aspects of Masonry that must continue to progress along with today,
and continue to make changes in order to stay up with the times.
Please do not focus on just this aspect of the question , it is after
all only a small part of what I would call a big picture. Here it is
"What changes if any should Masonry make in order to attract new
members or should Masonry embrace its past, in this case its older
membership, and understand after all that it is their actions and
their way of doing things which allowed, for so many years, Masonry to
reach beyond that which any of us as Masons today have ever
experienced? O.K. maybe I could have worded it a little differently
but hopefully you get the point.
