Hello District 7 Neighbors and Friends: As many of you may be aware, the Maryland General Assembly passed a bill that the Governor subsequently signed into law approving the allowance of Sunday liquor sales in Prince George’s County. As your Council Member, I lobbied your State Delegates fiercely and sent letters to prevent the bill from passing out of concern that the increased availability of alcohol could be detrimental to some areas of our communities in District 7 and many District 7 residents went to Annapolis and testified against allowing Sunday liquor sales. The new law allows for the Board of License Commissioners (Liquor Board) to grant up to 100 Special Sunday Off-Sale Permits. This would allow most existing Alcoholic Beverage Establishments to sale liquor 7 days per week and they are looking at liquor stores in District 7 as prime locations. The Board of License Commissioners has received applications for the new Sunday Off-Sale Permits and is set to hold Public Hearings on the applications beginning NEXT WEEK, AUGUST 25th. This is the final step before approving or rejecting the application for Sunday Liquor Sales. Many District 7 Liquor stores have applied for the permit, and this will be your last chance to speak out against allowing Sunday Liquor Sales at many of the liquor stores in District 7. Will you join me and your District 7 Team at these hearings? Below is a list of the scheduled hearings with dates and times for each District 7 establishment as well as those establishments that are in close proximity to District 7. All of the hearings will be held at 9200 Basil Court, Largo, Maryland in Room 410. Testimony will be accepted in writing or can be provided in person, at the public hearing.
