Hello all,

We hope this email finds you and your families healthy and safe! Now more than ever during the new era of COVID-19, safe and equitable access to fresh, healthy food is an imperative for our community's well-being, and supporting our region's farmers and food businesses is essential to a strong local economy. We've been working with our new Farmers Market Manager, Sara Draper-Zivetz, to develop safety protocols informed by the best practices of other farmers markets already in operation, as well as regulations outlined by the CDC, USDA, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Departments of Health.

For these reasons, we are glad to share that the Lawrenceville Farmers Market will be proceeding this season, and we plan to open on time on Tuesday, June 2. Today, May 1st, is the official deadline for vendors to apply, but we would very much appreciate you sharing this email with vendors who you think might be interested, and if they need a few more days, we encourage folks who are interested to be in touch with Sara and we can try to work with them. I have attached the application to this email.

With a modified market layout, we have some room for possible expansion and hope to be able to accommodate as many businesses as possible at the market, perhaps even brick and mortar businesses that would like to pivot to an open-air format - with the caveat that we need to adhere to “essential business” standards as defined by Governor Wolf.

We are also seeking customer input! Before opening day, we at Lawrenceville United, in partnership with Bloomfield Development Corporation, launching a community survey to help us better understand our community's plans, concerns, and priorities for shopping at the Bloomfield and Lawrenceville Farmers Markets this season, and help us make sure it is as safe, accessible and positive an experience as possible in light of covid-19.

The survey should take about five minutes to complete. All questions are optional and responses will be kept strictly confidential. Participants who complete the survey and include their email address will be entered into a raffle to receive a gift certificate from a local business. The raffle winner will be announced in June.

The broader a response we get to this survey, the better we will be able to understand and plan for our community's needs. Please help us share this survey with your clients, friends, colleagues, family members and anyone you know who might be a shopper at Lawrenceville's Tuesday market or Bloomfield's Saturday Market this season.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions to either of us!

Thanks very much,

Helen Gerhardt
