Dear PFPC members,

We are clear that food security is profoundly linked to housing security. We know that the growing public health and economic crisis means that many individuals and families have and will continue to loose their incomes and struggle to pay rent and mortgages. While there has been an eviction moratorium in place in PA, Governor Wolf has determined that he does not have the legal authority to extend an eviction moratorium beyond its August 31st expiration. Since the state legislature is unlikely to act, the impetus is now on county courts to help protect the unprecedented numbers of individuals and families on the brink of homelessness.

Working with coalition partners seated at the Affordable Housing Table convened by Pittsburgh United alongside Action Housing, I have signed the attached letter to Judge Kim Berkley Clark and Judge Christine Ward on behalf of the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council. As we work to fight hunger amidst the pandemic, let us act to help keep people home and safe.

I encourage you to join us in signing your organization or business on to the letter attached requesting urgent action. To sign on, please email your name and organization directly to Celeste Scott at cel...@pittsburghunited.org by 6PM today, August 26th.

AND PLEASE SHARE!

Forward together,
