The 99% Pennsylvania, PA Budget and Policy Center and Pennsylvania's CHOICE are hosting and shared the following:

"Time is running out for Congress and the White House to enact a comprehensive, robust, & bipartisan coronavirus relief package, so we are at a pull-out-all-the-stops moment in terms of advocacy. Most of our national allies & many political observers believe that if a COVID relief package is not negotiated by the end of the month, there will likely be no further legislative relief until sometime early next year. This would have devastating consequences for Pennsylvanians struggling to make ends meet, feed their families, and keep a roof over their heads, as well as negative repercussions for the state budget and economy.
Included below are announcements, updates, & resources, including information about this Thursday morning’s Virtual Rally for Pandemic Relief, news reports about developments in Washington, and a host of advocacy materials & information from the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities.
Thanks for all of your efforts to advocate for the kind of COVID relief package PA needs, and I hope to see you at the virtual rally on Thursday morning!"
Virtual Rally for Pandemic Relief: 11AM this Thursday (9/17)
Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa and House Minority Leader Frank Dermody will be speaking at a Virtual Rally for Pandemic Relief this Thursday (9/17) at 11AM, along with several Pennsylvanians who are being directly impacted by the pandemic & the accompanying economic downturn.  Friends & allies are invited to attend the virtual rally, and attendees will need to register in advance to receive a login link. The news media is being invited to cover the event, so we’re encouraging allies in attendance to make/bring signs calling for federal action on COVID relief and identifying their organizational affiliation, which we’ll ask people to hold up & display at various points during the rally.
Feel free to share the invitation & the link with your supporters, but we’re requesting that folks not post it publicly on social media, so that we don’t attract people who would seek to disrupt the event. Register here: https://bit.ly/COVIDReliefVirtualRally-09172020
News Updates from Washington:
The Hill, 9/15/2020
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday announced that the House will remain in session until the parties have an agreement on another round of emergency coronavirus relief ... Pelosi indicated she isn't willing to accept a ‘skinny’ legislative package, but told her troops the chamber's calendar will be extended until an agreement is sealed ... The surprise development reflects both the severity of the public health and economic crises caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the growing pressure Pelosi is facing from the moderate wing of her party, which is clamoring for leadership to vote on another aid package before Congress leaves town again for the elections …”
Roll Call, 9/15/2020
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday the House won't close up shop for the elections until congressional leaders and the Trump administration can negotiate another coronavirus relief package ... House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer meanwhile told reporters that remaining in session might mean letting lawmakers go home next month, but with a potential quick turnaround to get back to Washington for votes if a deal is reached ... Even if Pelosi keeps House members in Washington past their scheduled Oct. 2 departure date, it’s unlikely that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will delay his chamber’s pre-election break, currently scheduled to begin on Oct. 9 ...”
Politico, 9/15/2020
“The House Problem Solvers Caucus released its COVID relief plan. Their plan was released without a list of supporters – it is roughly $1.5 trillion, with the option of getting to $1.9 trillion in 2021, or down to $1.3 trillion if the economy/health picture changes. House Democratic Leadership doesn’t seem to care much for it, & multiple Dem sources pointed out that the proposal lined up with what the White House wants – partially true. Gottheimer & Rep. Tom Reed's stated goal was to force the negotiators back to the table. That may or may not happen, & may or may not be because of this plan. Right now they aren’t talking, &, as we could tell this morning, there was no movement that was related or unrelated to this proposal …”
