FYI. In case anyone is configuring with Python 3.13 and PETSc 3.21.x or lower.

Its a python-3.13 issue.

However MacOS python is 3.9.6 - so maybe you have brew python in PATH?

If so - try:

/usr/bin/python3 ./configure ...
