Hello,

In the Tecplot header for unstructured grids, the number of nodes and and elements are specified with:
 ... N=***, ELEMENTS=***
However, Tecplot crashes when it finds "ELEMENTS", it wants "E" instead.

I noticed this is in a number of output routines, can we change it (from ELEMENTS to E)?
I can create a pull request if you all agree ...

Paolo,

Tecplot 2009 was able to successfully load output files for example_problems/umesh/mixed/pflotran.in. Are you using a different version of Tecplot? Can you send the tecplot output file that is crashing?

-Gautam.

Hi Gautam,

I see, there is a issue with different tecplot versions... both tecplot 10, and the latest tecplot 360 crash when using elements ELEMENTS
Replacing this identifier with "E" fixes the problem.
Please find attached one of tecplot outout files affected by this same problem, and the error printout when trying to load the file into tec 10.

Can you check if with tecplot 9 you can read "E" rather than "ELEMENTS"?

I thought nobody was using tecplot for ugrids, and there was an error in the header just because nobody tested before...

We could add different tecplot format options if necessary such as:

FORMAT TECPLOT9 ...
FORMAT TECPLOT ... could be the latest tecplot version etc.

Paolo,

Tecplot9 was able to read files with 'E' instead of 'ELEMENTS', so I updated the code and pushed it in pflotran-dev repo.

We do encourage users to use HDF output for large problems, but we haven't abandon the ASCII tecplot output format. So, in the future if you or other users run into issues regarding tecplot format, please do send us an email.

Thanks,
-Gautam.
