Hi,

The HDF5 output generated with PFlotran can be read by VisIt without problem. It
imports the fields at the different time steps.
Importing the HDF5 in Paraview (with the option HDF5->PFlotran) however does
not work correctly. It imports the geometry and show the different species, but the values
can not be displayed for the different time steps.
Does Paraview expect another HDF5 format? Or is it simply a bug in the ParaView HDF5-PFlotran
import? If it is the latter, I can write a bug report to the ParaView mailing list....

Luis

P.S. Note that I am not talking about the VTK output, which works fine
in ParaView (although not very compact).

The PFLOTRAN HDF5 output format is something that I chose and for which Visit developers wrote a custom loader. Since we did not adhere to any standard format, I don't expect Paraview to read the existing HDF5 format, though it is perhaps as straightforward as one can get. I don't know that a better format existed at the time that was any better than what I chose, since it leverages the HDF5 hyperslab to maximize performance.

We did work with Jim Ahrens, a Paraview developer, and a prototypical loader was developed, but it never went any further. Perhaps Peter can comment. This was in the 2008 timeframe.

We never had hdf5 working with para view so submitting a bug report would be good. How do you use it with vtk?

But a bug report implies that a PFLOTRAN loader was written for ParaView and working in the first place….

Paraview is supposed to use the exact same code to read files as visit, but that is clearly not working.

Well, sure enough.  The claim to support it through the “Visit Database Bridge”:

Submit a bug report.

There is one.  It just doesn’t load multiple time steps.
