Dear PFLOTRAN developers,

I am currently developing a PFLOTRAN model and encountered the following error message during execution:

"ERROR: Variable ID 8 not supported for the process model: NULL_FLOW. Please look at variables.F90 to match this integer ID with a variable parameter constant."

The purpose of the simulation is to evaluate reactive tracer transport in a 3D domain that includes a synthetic fracture. The domain is a rectangular box (1.0 x 0.5 x 0.1 meters), and the fracture is explicitly represented as a high-permeability slit running from x = 0.4 m to x = 0.6 m across the entire Y-Z plane. The surrounding matrix is impermeable. The goal is to simulate fluid and tracer flow through the fracture and observe water-rock interactions, such as the neutralization reaction between H⁺ and OH⁻.

To implement this, I defined two material properties: one for the impermeable background (1e-20 m² permeability), and one for the slit (1e-12 m² permeability). I initially used `SPECIFIED_VELOCITY` to drive the flow in the X-direction. In the output section, I attempted to write variables such as `VELOCITY_AT_CENTER`.

I suspect that the error is due to not enabling a flow model explicitly, and thus PFLOTRAN treats the problem as "NULL_FLOW", making flow-related variables unsupported. I would appreciate your advice on how to correctly structure this input, or any clarification on using output variables in such a configuration.

I have attached the input file (`fracture_test.in`) for your reference.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,
Izuto

Izuto,

For me, your input deck runs with no issues. Which version of PFLOTRAN are you using? What is the output from the command:

git log -1

executed within the PFLOTRAN repository?

Thanks,

Glenn
