Fortran compilers / debuggers for M series

PFLOTRAN devs (suing Apple silicon),

After ~20 years, I just took the plunge on a MacBook Pro only to discover that support for Fortran is limited.

What do you recommend regarding Fortran compiler and more importantly debuggers? I hear that GDB is not supported, making it difficult to debug with VS Code.

I installed from HomeBrew:
