The fight over marriage in the House of Delegates is already heating up. A number of our swing Delegates are getting hit very hard with negative phone calls.  When I got home last night from witnessing the historic Senate passage (the vote was 25-21) of the Civil Marriage Protection Act (SB116) I opened the mail box and found a post card from one of our biggest out of state opponents very loudly proclaiming “Our Marriages and Families are under attack.” Their opposition is viciously attempting to make sure Maryland law continues to deny our LGBT families Civil Equality.

I am asking you to breathe in and savor February 24th’s victory in the Maryland State Senate then exhale and move on. Today is a new day and we must continue our difficult work. Today is the hearing in the Maryland House of Delegates.

Today, I will again be calling my Delegates to ask them to support HB55 Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Act. I am asking you to call your delegates too. This is urgent! There is extraordinary pressure coming from out-of-state organizations and this is OUR state. We live here! We can only depend on ourselves and our friends to keep this positive momentum moving forward.

Your call will have a tremendously positive impact on the outcome. After you make your call, ask a friend or two to also make that call. If we all get one or two friends to help we can double our impact.

I am very grateful for everything you have already done. But we must not rest now. Remember, we are the tortoise in this effort. And we all remember was happened to the hare!

Grateful Regards,
