Do you have any examples of LGBT students getting kicked out of private or

parochial schools, or not accepted because of their, or their parents,

sexual orientation?  We need a couple of concrete examples quickly. See

below.  I asked Pat the same question from MDLC perspective.

Subject: Private sch discrimination

This is from our lobbyist re: the BOAST bill. (Pat, this would give tax

credits to businesses who donate money for scholarships for students to

attend private or parochial school)  One of our points is that these schools

do not have to take everybody; they can discriminate based on disability,

sexual orientation of parent or student, etc.

Please help us come up with examples of instances in which students with

disabilities, etc., have been turned away from private or parochial schools

in Maryland.

I don’t think we need names at this point but instances that we could

corroborate if it came to that.

You must know many schools that actively or passively steer kids away.

Thanks.

Subject: Boast hearing

Hi Bebe,

At the Boast hearing, Sen. McFadden wanted me to get back to him with actual

instances of private schools discriminating against kids.  Do you have any I

can give him?  Thanks,

Melissa

I am not aware of any students being refused entrance  to schools in Md., at this date.      Erma

None that I know of. However, I I don’t know how many parents have been scared away from schools because they were afraid they would be mistreated due to their sexual orientation.  Gilman only has two openly LGBT families that I know about.
