The History and Tradition of Two-spirited Individuals in Native American Culture
Mr. Marlon Fixico of the Two Spirit Society of Washington DC will be our guest presenter. He is a member of the Southern Cheyenne Nation of Oklahoma and serves on the boards of several native organizations locally and nationally, including the National Congress of American Indians and American Indians Science and Engineering Society. He also has been a member of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Diversity and Inclusion Council. He will talk to us about two-spirited individuals in the Native American culture. In this culture these individuals were thought to possess a blending of the male and female spirits and were subsequently given special status in society.
Join us at the August 23rd meeting and learn more about two-spiritedness. We look forward to seeing you there.
