Reviewing the PFLAG Baltimore County June 2009 Meeting

We missed everyone who is traveling or had other commitments.

1. We discussed the need to remind each other what the mission of
PFLAG is, and Jason read the Mission Statement to the group. It was
decided by those present that this will become a monthly ritual.
2. We talked about the DC Pride Parade on June 13th and the Baltimore
Pride Festival in Druid Hill Park on June 21st. There are pictures of
both events at the following link:

(please copy and paste this into your browser. I could not figure out
how to make this a functional link. When you arrive, look on the left
side of the screen for the different albums.

I am also in the progress of printing out photos to make an album for
those who do not use online viewers.
3. We also considered changing the meeting time from 7:30 to 7:00pm.
This was agreed upon and will begin with the July 24, 2009 meeting.
Please be sure to make a note of this. And please inform me if you
receive an automated message that was not corrected.
4. The general topic of conversation was my recent contact with The
Baltimore County Human Relations Commission. Their Mission Statement
says: “Discrimination based on race, creed, religion, sex, age,
national origin, marital status, physical or mental ability will not
be tolerated in Baltimore County.” My question to them via email was,
“How difficult would it be to include the phrases ‘sexual orientation’
and ‘gender identity’ in this mission statement.” The Executive
Director ended her response to me with an invitation to speak before
the Commission. As a group we discussed how changing this Mission
Statement might have a positive influence on the Baltimore County
School system and how, as an organization we might like to approach
this opportunity. Please contact me if you have any ideas on this
subject. The “plan” will be in development for the next few weeks with
the intension to make the presentation in September.
5. Please be reminded that we will be submitting our application for
non profit status in the next few weeks. The Bylaws and Articles of
incorporation have been completed. If anyone wishes to review these
documents before the application is made, please contact me for a
copy.
