স্বাধীনতাত্তোর সময়ে সিরাজ শিকদারসহ হাজার হাজার বিরোধীদলের নেতাকর্মীদের হত্যার মধ্যদিয়েই শেখ মুজিবের হত্যার ইতিহাস শুরু নয়। শেখ মুজিবের রক্তের খেলা শুরু হয়েছে ১৯৫৮ সালে। ঐ সালের ২৩ শে সেপ্টেম্বর তিনি ডেপুটি স্পীকার শাহেদ আলীকে চেয়ার দিয়ে পিটিয়ে হত্যা করেন। শেখ মুজিব ও আওয়ামীলীগের ইতিহাস মানেই রক্তের ইতিহাস, হত্যার ইতিহাস।

২৩শে সেপ্টেম্বর (১৯৫৮) সম্পূরক (Supplementary) বাজেট পেশের সাথে সাথে দক্ষযজ্ঞ শুরু হয়ে গেল। মোহন মিয়া, নান্না মিয়া, নবী চৌধুরী প্রমুখ আবু হোসেন দলের নেতারা মাইক স্ট্যান্ড, চেয়ারের হাতল ইত্যাদি যা পেলেন তা ডেপুটি স্পীকার শাহেদ আলীর দিকে ছুঁড়ে মারতে লাগলেন। এ ব্যাপারে ফরিদপুরের মোহন মিয়া (ইউসুফ আলী চৌধুরী) ওস্তাদ ছিলেন। চরের জমি জবর দখলের সময় তিনি তার লাঠিয়াল বাহিনীর সাথে থাকতেন এবং নিজেই দাঙ্গা পরিচালনা করতেন। ওদিকে আওয়ামী লীগের যারা মাসলম্যান, মারামারিতে ওস্তাদ তারা মোহন মিয়াদের ওপর পাল্টা আক্রমণ করল। আই.জি. ইসমাইল সাহেব স্বয়ং পরিষদ কক্ষের ভেতরে। এসেম্বলী মার্শালরাও ছিলেন। কিন্তু বিভিন্ন কারণে (যা আসির কমিশন রিপোর্টে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে) তারা পরিস্থিতির মোকাবেলা করে শান্তিশৃঙ্খলা ফিরিয়ে আনতে ব্যর্থ হন।

শেখ মুজিব আমার পাশে বসা ছিলেন। অপর পক্ষ স্পিকারের ওপর আক্রমণ করার সাথে সাথে সে তার ব্যাগ থেকে শঙ্কর মাছের হাত দেড়েকের একটা লেজ বের করে। শুনেছি শঙ্কর মাছের মাছের লেজের আঘাতে নাকি ঘা হয় এবং সে ঘা পঁচতে থাকে। স্পীকারের চারদিকে আবু হোসেনের দল হল্লা করছিল। সেদিকে লাফ দেবার আগে আমি শেখ মুজিবের হাত ধরে ফেললাম এবং বললাম – গভর্ণমেন্ট তোমাদের, এসেম্বলি মার্শালরা এমন কি পুলিশের আই.জি উপস্থিত আছেন। কিন্তু মুজিব ঝাড়া মেরে আমার হাত থেকে মুক্ত হয়ে গেল। মারামারি চলছে। সূর্য পূর্ব দিকে না উঠে পশ্চিম দিকে উঠতে পারে কিন্তু যখন মারামারি চলছে তখন শেখ মুজিব আতাউরের মত চুপচাপ বসে থাকবে তা তো হতে পারে না। তাহলে শেখ মুজিব আর শেখ মুজিব থাকে না।২৫শে সেপ্টেম্বর বেলা ১-২০মিনিটের সময় ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে তিনি ইন্তেকাল করেন। পরদিন গিলোটিন করে বাজেট পাশ করার পর অধিবেশন মূলতবী হয়॥”

ঐদিন (২৬শে সেপ্টেম্বর) আওয়ামী লীগ বহু গুন্ডামার্কা লোক পরিষদ ভবনে আমদানী করেছিল। এদের মধ্যে কিছু কিশোরও ছিল। নানা রকম ইয়ার্কি মারছিল। আমার গা ঘিন ঘিন করছিল। পরিষদ ভবনের মর্যাদা চরমভাবে ক্ষুন্ন হল। যাবার সময় তারা পরিষদ ভবনের চারপাশের বাগানের সব ফুল ও কুঁড়ি ছিঁড়ে নিয়ে যায়। এ যেন সুন্দরের ওপর অসুন্দরের এক নিষ্ঠুর আক্রমণ, কলাবনে মত্ত হাতীর প্রবেশ।

August 15: Know the Facts, Not Fiction

 

After 21 years in political wilderness, the Bangladesh Awami League returned to power in 1996, thanks to a conniving hand of former dictator General H M Ershad. The first thing Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the new Prime Minister, did was to arrest the coup leaders of August 15, 1975 and put them on trial.

Interestingly, the trial issue was never an AL election manifesto--- not even in 1996. The party knew it well that the trial of the August 15 coup leaders was neither a public demand nor was it in national interest.

Nonetheless, trial turned out to be Sheikh Hasina’s top priority. According to at least two prominent personalities, Serajur Rahman of BBC, and a Colonel of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, Sheikh Hasina had no interest in politics. But wanted to be in the seat of power at least for a day to fulfill her two agendas: 1) To try the ‘killers’ of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and, 2) to rehabilitate his image. She did exactly those two things in her first term as Prime Minister.

To justify the so-called Mujib Murder Trial, all kinds of falsehood and misinformation were fed to the public, to the media and to the foreigners about the August 15, 1975 coup. According to most independent observers, the drama orchestrated in the name of the trial was a sham. The Awami-inspired judges dished out the death penalty to a few army officers picked up as scapegoats. Within minutes of the final OK by the Supreme Court and the president's seal of approval, the national heroes had to walk to the gallows in an unprecedented haste on the fateful night of January 27/28, 2010.   

During the trial, few went to the circumstances that led to the pre-dawn military action against the repressive and dictatorial regime of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangabandhu turns Banga-Shatru?

On January 10, 1972, the people of the newly liberated Bangladesh showered all the love and affection to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman upon his arrival in Dhaka from Pakistani custody. Few leaders in history enjoyed such adulation, such popularity. Regrettably, things changed in just three and a half years.

Well known Indian journalist and writer Kuswant Singh wrote in the Illustrated Weekly of India about Sheikh Mujib, "Within a couple of years, he had lost much of his charisma and lived in a cocoon of self-spun esteem. He came to regard honest critics as traitors and sycophants as loyal friends. It was a classic case of folio de grandeur. He was blissfully unaware that the very people who called him Bangabandhu to his face were behind his back called him Banga-Shatru."

On January 2, 1973, Mujahidul Islam Selim, Vice President of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU), at a Paltan rally in Dhaka withdrew the Bangabandhu title given to Sheikh Mujibur Rahmna and cancelled his life-long membership of the DUCSU, tearing off the page from the register in public. It was the same student leader, who granted him the DUCSU membership a year ago. Selim had further asked all offices to remove the pictures of Mujib. Among other slogans at the rally, “Sheikh Mujib Traitor of Bangladesh (Banglar Mir Jaffor Sheikh Mujib) was the loudest. Motia Chowdhury, a fiery Chatra Union leader, desired to make dug-dugi, hand-held drum, with the skin of Mujib. Around  that time, AL’s Chatra League activists stripped the sari off Motia Chowdhury in public. The incidents were in the wake of the killing of some activists of Students Union at Mujib’s order while they were demonstrating anti-American slogans for its Vietnam War.

On August 29, 1975, the Workers Party of Rashed Khan Menon, stated, “For the past three and a half years, the people suffered under the detested and anti-people regime of Sheikh Mujib and prayed every moment for its fall. The August 15 had accomplished it.”  

 

Ironically, all these leaders are happily doing Awami politics today.

 

A Reflection on August 15

At the dawn of August 15, 1975, the people of Dhaka woke up to the blasts of a few artillery shots followed by small arms fires coming from the posh Dhanmondi area where Sheikh Mujib lived. In intuition, they immediately switched their radios on; rumors of a possible coup were in the air for sometime. Surely, they heard an announcement that the government of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had been overthrown in a military coup.

The first announcement came from one Major Rashed. It was followed by an agitated speech by Captain Mustafa, condemning the fallen regime. It was before 6 AM and the main transmitter had not been activated yet. As such, most people missed much of those announcements.

After half an hour, another person identifying himself as Major Dalim, made the detailed announcement, including the news of the unfortunate death of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the short military action and that his close associate Khandakar Mushtaque Ahmed took over as the new president. His recorded announcement continued for sometime.

The day was Friday and the curfew was relaxed for two hours at noontime to facilitate the Jummah prayer. Wow! The Dhaka city turned to another Victory Day celebrations. People paraded the streets singing slogans, expressing their happiness and solidarity with the political change. Veteran politician and former East Pakistan Chief Minister Ataur Rahman Khan termed August 15 as “The Day of Deliverance.”
 
Under the Awami administration, the day is observed as a Mourning Day for the loss of its leader. In the month of August, the party and its supporting agencies keep showering praise on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. To them, he was Bangabandhu, he was Jatir Pita and he was Shorbokaler Sorbosreshto Bangali. Outside their circle, not many people agree with those titles. 

The younger generations may please go through the media reports and pages of newspapers of the time---it is not difficult in today's technology--- and find the facts for themselves to learn the truth. One should not be swayed by myths, and untrue and unsubstantiated information.

I once came across an article by M M Azizul Haq published in the Daily Inqilab on November 1, 1991. It was titled "Indemnity Rohit: Kar Sarthey? (Repeal of Indemnity: In Who’s Interest?). It was written in the backdrop of then opposition party Awami League's pressure for the repeal of the Indemnity Act. There could be more such write-ups elsewhere.

The new president promulgated an indemnity ordinance to immunize those who were involved in the military action on August 15, 1975. The ordinance became part of the constitution as Indemnity Act in 1979 under Fifth Amendment. 

Mr. Azizul Haq detailed the reasons why August 15 took place and what might have been the scenario in Bangladesh had there not been this coup. The picture he painted was scary.

According to most analysts, August 15 was inevitable. It was the call of the time, call of the majority of Bangladeshis who were groaning under the dark and heavy hands of Mujb's autocratic and repressive machinery. They thought military alone could salvage the nation.

While observing the Mourning Day, the AL and its supporters start with the AL leader’s heavily edited version of March 7, 1971 speech and end with it. They rarely talk about the achievements of his administration. Younger generations--- those in forties and below--- need to visualize the Bangladesh of 1972-1975, the supposed “Golden Period” of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Those who lived the time, need to walk back in time for reorientation. Few may disagree that whatever little benefit of independence, freedom, democracy and development people of Bangladesh enjoy today is largely attributed to the August 15 political change.

The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian of London, the Far Eastern Economic Review and many others international media houses highlighted Mujib's corruptible administration under which a few hundred thousand people perished in the man-made famine of 1974-75. Men and animals struggling for eatables in the city wastes were common sights. Poor women could not come out of their houses, as they did not have clothes to cover. Whatever they had, turned to almost fishing nets. Dead bodies had to be buried with banana leaves.

But there was no dearth of relief goods that remained hoarded in the warehouses of the ruling coterie, to be dispensed for political expediency or sold in the black market. The corruption was so extensive that former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger termed Bangladesh a Bottomless Basket.

While people were dying in the streets and in the countryside, the marriages of Sheikh Kamal and Sheikh Jamal were celebrated in royal style at the Gonobhaban, Mujib's official residence. So did Mujib's birthday in 1975.  

Mujib's personal force of Rakkhi Bahini, created at the instance of India ostensibly to counter the army, killed over 30 thousand political opponents. The late Enayetullah Khan of the Holiday put the figure to 38,000. A S M Abdur Rob of Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal once claimed that over 40,000 of his cadre were killed/disappeared during that period. Mujib himself admitted in the parliament the killing of Siraj Sikdar, a top leftist leader. Can one imagine how many additional lives would have lost had there not been the August 15?

In end 1974, Emergency was clamped in the country. All but four government-owned newspapers were cancelled publication. Political activities were banned. Anyone not toeing the official line was either in jail or not seen again. The political openness and the media freedom we see in Bangladesh today is a gift of August 15.

In January 1975, Sheikh Mujib took over presidency, showing the exit door to poor Muhammad Ullah. Reportedly, there was a plan, through the Chatra League route, to make Mujib the lifelong president. August 15 stopped that dream of a lifelong repressive autocracy in Bangladesh.

The last nail on the coffin of an ailing nation came in the form of Mujib's supposed “greatest achievement”, the formation of the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BAKSAL), the Soviet style one-party government. All other political parties were banned. The military and the bureaucracy were politicized by forcing them to join the BAKSAL. The country was divided into 61 political districts, each to be administered jointly by a BAKSAL governor and a BAKSAL Secretary, chosen personally by the leader. The system was to take effect on September 1, 1975. 

Noted historian and author K Ali said on Sheikh Mujib, “He was out and out a despotic ruler and snatched away fundamental rights of the people by introducing absolute dictatorship under one-party system----there was hardly any doubt that the measure (one-party rule) was taken only to establish his permanent rule in the country without any opposition.” August 15 stopped that dangerous path. 

According to the politico-partisan trial, August 15 was said to be an isolated act committed by a “handful of disgruntled army officers”. Far from the truth. From available information, the coup was executed by two units---2 Field Artillery and 1 Lancer---and led mostly by their officers. One infantry unit from Joydevpur failed to join the group at the last moment. How wide ranging was the support for the coup may be verified from the following examples:

Military Support

When under attack, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called then army chief General Safiullah for help. The General could not. Safiullah acknowledged to the Daily Star that he was helpless, as he found that the whole army was supportive of the coup.

The moment Brigadier Khaled Mosharraf, then army Chief of the General Staff, learnt that the main guns of the tanks that were out for the coup were without ammunition, he immediately ordered shells for the guns.

Immediately after the coup, chiefs of army, navy, air force, Bangladesh Rifles, police, Rakkhi Bahini and Ansar rushed to the Dhaka Radio to announce their complete support for the coup and loyalty to the new president. It would be ludicrous to think that “a handful of officers” forced them to do it.  

If the whole military did not support the coup, what prevented it to immediately crush those ‘handful’ men?  

Public support. 

Hardly any Innalillah….was heard upon the news of Sheikh Mujib’s death. In fact, people said to have heaved a sigh of relief with an Alhamdulillah. They thanked Allah, they had been saved! It was declared a Day of Deliverance by Ataur Rahman Khan, a later day Prime Minister.

There was not an iota of resistance or protest from any quarter anywhere following the coup or “killing” of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. One may check the newspapers in the archives for facts. Again, the 110 million people of Bangladesh were not at gunpoint from a “handful of officers”.

People swarmed the Dhaka streets in thousands in jubilation and celebration of the success of the coup. Similar celebrations were reported from rest of the country. The scenario may only be compared to the victory day of December 16, 1971.  

People offered special prayers and distributed sweets on the day. Such celebrations were also reported form Bangladeshi communities abroad.  

Political Support: 

The post coup administration was formed entirely by the Awami League members of the parliament. The only exception was former president Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury who became the foreign minister. No coup leader was seen within miles of the new administration, an unprecedented example in the history of successful coups/revolutions. To those patriots and dedicated souls, August 15 was to save the nation, not to run it.  

Veteran Awami Leaguer Abdul Malek Ukil said on the fall of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that the country was relieved of a Zalim Feroun. Malek Ukil was the Speaker of the House and later became the President of the Awami League.

Following the August 15 coup, newspapers and TV channels were filled with greetings from various political, educational and cultural groups from all over the country. Again, one may visit the media archives-- national and international---to find facts. 

Diplomatic Acknowledgement: 

The new government formed after the August 15 coup was immediately welcomed and recognized by international community, including India, the US, the USSR and the UK. China and Saudi Arabia accorded recognition to Bangladesh for the first time.

It is, however, regrettable that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and some of his close relatives died during the coup. I am not aware if his death was intended and if it could be averted. I may just quote a top bureaucrat of that time: "Under the circumstances, one could not think of a change of government keeping Mujib alive." Colonel Abdur Rashid, one of the coup leaders, said more or less the same to Anthony Mascarenhas in London in 1976.

My intention is not to glorify a death event. But August 15 cannot be called a mere death event. It was a successful military coup for the greater national interest. The event should be seen from a larger perspective. It reintroduced multiparty democracy, it brought political freedom, it relieved the gagged press, and it opened public accountability, among others.  

To understand August 15, one needs to walk back in time to the early period of Bangladesh and judge the day in that perspective. Sheikh Mujib is dead. So are hundreds of thousand others that were perished under his heavy hands. The greatest achievement of August 15, I think, was that it succeeded in stopping those unaccountable killings since.

There is a big gap-- from 2001 to 2006--- a crucial time governed by BNP, a good beneficiary of the 1975 coup that was overwhelmingly supported by the people of Bangladesh. What did BNP do at that time, left the case open for Hasina's next step to implement her vindictive agenda of killing the coup-leaders.

BNP needs to understand that in crucial times, it should not play the passive role of a by-stander and let the supportive forces get killed that strengthens enemy's/contender's hands, and thus be victim of vengeance, finally! BNP has been facing that consequence of allowing Hasina to clean all supportive forces and natural allies of BNP!

An obscene position indeed! The murderers should go free? What kind of examples would that set up for a young country like Bangladesh? BNP should have patronized killers?

You missed a few more, Bahar Bhai. Accept the Awami charge that Ziaur Rahman was Pakistani spy in 1971 and condemn him as a traitor, offer no objection to remove Zia's mazar from Dhaka, disown Tareq Rahman and stop his activities in London, and so on.

If you recall, during the height of opposition oborodh and andolon, everybody was crying that let them (BNP led opposition) stop the movement, then the government would sit to talk with them. Nothing has happened since. Now, ruling coterie has a new issue: Jamaat. Once BNP surrenders to this demand, they will come with the next one, and the next and the next until people wonder who was Ziaur Rahman  and what was BNP!?

১৯৭৪ সালের ১১নং আদেশ শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের সংসদ থেকে পাস করা এই সংশোধনী কার্যকারিতা দেখানো হয় ১৯৭২ সালের ১ ফেব্রুয়ারী থেকে।

১৯৭৪ সালের রক্ষীবাহিনী সংশোধনী আইনের ১৬(ক) অনুচ্ছেদ সংযোজন করে বলা হয়, রক্ষীবাহিনীর সদস্যরা তাদের যে কোনো কাজ সরল বিশ্বাসে করেছেন বলে গণ্য করা হবে এবং এ নিয়ে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে কোনো মামলা দায়ের, অভিযোগ পেশ কিংবা আইনগত কোনো পদক্ষেপ নেয়া যাবে না।

রক্ষীবাহিনীকে অত্যাচার, নির্যাতন, লুটতরাজ ও গোপনে-প্রকাশ্যে হত্যাকান্ডের দায় থেকে মুক্তি দিতে জাতীয় রক্ষীবাহিনী আইনে এ সংশোধনী আনা হয়। এটা ছিল ১৯৭৪ সালের ১১নং আদেশ। ১৯৭৪ সালে জাতীয় রক্ষীবাহিনী আইনের সংশোধনী এনে এই ইনডেমনিটি দেয়া হয়। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান নিজেই রক্ষী বাহিনীর খুনিদের বাচানোর জন্য স্বাধীন দেশে এই আইনটি করেছিলেন।

অর্থাৎ রক্ষীবাহিনী কার্যক্রমের শুরু থেকে যা কিছু করেছে সবই দায়মুক্তি পায় ১৯৭৪ সালের সংশোধনীতে।

First of all, our acceptance, rejection or support or going against mean little. Nobody bothers what we say or hope. But because we love our country, or country of origin, we engage ourselves in this intellectual exercise. Of course, in the process we know each other's mind.

All patriots, in other words, all sane persons want to two things for Bangladesh: 1) Ouster of the current illegal and fascist regime the soonest, and 2) Keep the country out of Indian hegemonies. We want friendship with India on a win-win situation only, on sovereign equality.  

My position is, once the first objective (removal of the illegal/unelected government) is achieved, let the people decide, under a free choice, who they want as their representative to run the show. If they want Awami League, so be it. If they want Jamaat, so be it. If they want BNP, so be it. If they want a Chakku Mia, so be it. However, if BNP wants to lead the nation, it should clarify its position to the people with regard to what Maudud has recently said in India. I think it is a serious matter and cannot be ignored. Also, the party needs to show its strength.

Thanks RC Bhai Gani Bhai AB Bhai Zainul Bhai for your comments. I think we need BNP more than it needs us, despite whatever it does in the face of BAL brutalities. Like the Indian elephant, BNP is lying low under the impact of BAL formalin and has been effectively anastheticized. Like the elephant,  let the BNP rise up and stand on its feet if it at all can under the unceasing BAL beating. I'm more concerned about its unity with many leaders threatening to quit, which they must not do considering the fact that BNP is still the largest political party in Bdesh, much larger than the BAL.

The August 15, 1975 coup was universally welcomed and the coup leaders were hailed as the heroes and saviors of the nation for more than two decades and through five successive governments. They suddenly became "killers" when the daughter of the fallen leader came to power in 1996. The direct beneficiary of the August coup, the BNP, abandoned those heroes. That's what Mr. Zainul Abedin expressed. I believe he spoke for the vast majority. 

If you can dispute any of the facts mentioned in the article (August 15: Know the Facts, Not Fiction) by Obaid Chowdhury, we would like to know that..

Brutal murders were welcomed universally? Who are these universal spectators? Yes, you got your universal Pakistani/ Jamat/Razakar support! No question about that.

People who love democracy but would suddenly lend their support to kill a whole family by military scums? Sounds very contradictory! People should be forced to swallow bloody murders of children an women? Are you sane? Would you let that happen to your own family? Are you not creating some new paradigm of justice where killings are fully justified to change a regime? With the same token, Zia/Manzur's murders were fully legitimate and fine? This is called a slippery slope mentality of shortsighted people. My killings are fine but yours aren't?

Obaid Chowdhury is not somebody I would look up for describing the true objective events of  history. His fiction is not better than any other person with few paragraphs of concocted stories. We know the history and that is the problem for many people, who love to change from bottom up.

I still fail to understand FM's invoking of Jamaat.  What I said in response to a post of PostCard that there would not be any end to the Awami demands on Begum Zia or BNP. If one item was fulfilled, Awamis would come with the next one. In 2013-2015, they asked BNP led opposition to stop the Aborodh/Andolon and then they would talk with the opposition. Andolon stopped but nothing happened. Now on the question of National Unity against terrorism, the ruling coterie demands the BNP to abandon Jamaat. Once they do it, they will certainly come up the next one, and the next and the next...That's what I wanted to emphasize. I think a Primary student should have understood it.

BTW, how do look at Awami-Jamaat alliance in 1996? How about Sheikh Hasina touching Gholam Azam's feet in reverence at least three times during those days?

I have not love of Jamaat. Let it's perpetrators of crime against humanity in 1971 be hanged a hundred times, provided the trial is fair and borne by hard evidences. In a death penalty, there should not be any scope of doubt.

ইতালিয়ান লেখিকা ওরিয়েনা ফাল্লাচির নামটির সাথে বাংলাদেশের সচেতন মহল পরিচিত। বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসের সাথে তার নেয়া একটি সাক্ষাতকার বিশেষ জায়গা করে নিয়েছে। এই দেশের মানুষের প্রতি তার মূল্যায়ন এখনকার সময়ে এসে অতি প্রয়োজনীয় হিসাবে দেখা দিয়েছে। এই ধরনের সত্যব্রত সাংবাদিক পৃথিবীতে খুব একটা বেশি জন্মলাভ করেনি। প্রথমে তার জন্ম দিনে তাকে স্মরণ করছি। ২০০৬ সালের ১৬ সেপ্টেম্বর মৃত্যবরন করেন তিনি। তিনি এমন একজন সাংবাদিক ছিলেন যে কথপোকথনের মাধ্যমে আসল সত্যকে উদ্ধার করতে পারতেন। বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসের সাথে তার সম্পর্ক কি সেটা বলার আগে তার সম্পর্কে কিছুটা আমি উল্ল্যেখ করছি।

ইতালিয়ান লেখিকা ওরিয়ানা ফাল্লাচি আপসহীন রাজনৈতিক সাক্ষাতকার গ্রহণকারী হিসেবেই সবচেয়ে পরিচিত। তিনি ১৯২৯ সালের ২৯ জুন ইতালির ফোরেন্সে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধকালীন ফ্যাসিবাদ বিরোধী একজন সক্রিয় কর্মী। দীর্ঘ পেশাদার সাংবাদিক হিসেবে তিনি অত্যন্ত সফল। সাংবাদিক হিসেবে ওরিয়ানা আন্তর্জাতিক ভাবে পরিচিত রাজনৈতিক ও নিজ নিজ ক্ষেত্রে প্রতিষ্ঠিত ব্যক্তিত্বের সাক্ষাতকার নিয়েছেন। তাদের মাঝে হেনরি কিসিঞ্জার, ইরানের শাহ, আয়াতুল্লাহ খোমিনি, উইলি ব্রান্ডিট, জুলফিকার আলী ভুট্টো, ওল্টার ক্রনকিট, ওমর খাদাফি, ফেডরিকো ফেলিনি, ইয়াসির আরাফাত, ইন্দিরা গান্ধী, শেখ মুজিব,শন কনারি প্রমুখ উল্লেখযোগ্য। দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময় ওরিয়ানা ফাল্লাচি ফ্যাসিবাদের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ে গণতান্ত্রিক স্বশস্ত্র প্রতিরোধ গোষ্ঠী 'গুইয়াসতিজিয়া ই লিবার্তা'য় যোগ দেন। তার পিতা এদোয়ার্দো ফাল্লাচি ছিলেন একজন কাঠশিল্পী ও সক্রিয় রাজনৈতিককর্মী। ইতালির ফ্যাসিস্ট বেনিটো মুসোলিনি'র বিরুদ্ধে তারা সংগ্রাম করছিলেন এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত সফলও হয়েছেন। তবে এর জন্যে এদোয়ার্দো ফাল্লাচিকে অনেক নির্যাতন সহ্য করতে হয়। মুসোলিনির বিরুদ্ধে আন্দোলনে ওরিয়ানার পিতা এদোয়ার্দো একবার ধরা পড়েন। অমানুষিক নির্যাতন চালানো হয় তার ওপর। রাজনৈতিক ম্যাগাজিন 'এল ইউরোপীয়' তে দীর্ঘদিন বিশেষ রাজনৈতিক প্রতিবেদক হিসেবে কাজ করেছেন। তিনি বহু খ্যাতনামা সংবাদপত্র এবং ম্যাগাজিনে লেখালেখি করেছেন। ১৯৬৮ সালে মেক্সিকান স্বশস্ত্র গোষ্ঠী ওরিয়ানার ওপর তিনবার বন্দুক হামলা চালায়। প্রতিবারই তিনি অল্পের জন্যে প্রাণে রক্ষা পান। ১৯৭৩ সালে সাক্ষাতকার নিতে গিয়ে আলেক্সজান্ডার প্যানাগোউলিস'র প্রেমে পড়েন তিনি। ১৯৬৭ সালের গ্রিক একনায়কের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিরোধ যুদ্ধের অন্যতম ব্যক্তিত্ব ছিলেন আলেক্সজান্ডার প্যানাগোউলিস। ১৯৭২ সালে ওরিয়ানা ফাল্লাচিকে দেয়া সাক্ষা'কারে হেনরি কিসিঞ্জার, 'ভিয়েতনাম যুদ্ধ'কে অপ্রয়োজনীয় বলে স্বীকার করে নেন। কিসিঞ্জার পরবর্তীতে এই সাক্ষাতকার সম্পর্কে লিখেছেন, 'প্রেসের সঙ্গে জড়িত কারো সঙ্গেই ইতোপূর্বে আমি এতো ভয়ঙ্কর কোনো আলোচনা করিনি।' 'লস অ্যাঞ্জেলস টাইমস' এ ওরিয়ানাকে চিত্রিত করা হয়েছে এভাবে, 'কোনো বিশ্ব ব্যক্তিত্বের পক্ষেই যে সাংবাদিককে 'না' বলা সম্ভব নয়।' নিজের সম্পর্কে তাঁর মূল্যায়ন ছিল, 'আমি কখনোই নিজেকে শান্ত একটি রেকর্ডারের মতো বিবেচনা করি না, যে শুধু যা দেখে এবং শোনে সাফল্যের সঙ্গে তাই ধারণ করে রাখে। 'ওরিয়ানা ফাল্লাচির এই বক্তব্যের মধ্যে তার নিজস্ব দর্শনের কিছুটা ছাপ পাওয়া যায়। অর্থাত সবকিছুর পরও নিজের অভিমত বা সিদ্ধান্তকে তিনি মর্যাদা দিতে আগ্রহী। ওরিয়ানা তাঁর নেয়া সাক্ষাতকার সম্পর্কে বলেছেন, 'প্রতিটি সাক্ষা'কারই আমার নিজের আঁকা ছবি।' বিষয়টির ব্যাখ্যা দিতে গিয়ে তিনি বলেন, 'আমি যদি চিত্রকর হতাম এবং তখন তোমার ছবি আঁকতাম, তবে সে সময় আমি যেভাবে তোমাকে আঁকতে চাইতাম সেভাবে আঁকার অধিকার কি আমার থাকতো না?'

জীবনের শেষ বছরটি তিনি কাটিয়েছেন নিউইয়র্কে। সেখানে তিনি ক্যান্সারের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ে চিকিতসা নিচ্ছিলেন। কিন্তু তিনি আর টিকে থাকেননি। ২০০৬ সালের ১৫ সেপ্টেম্বর , ৭৭ বছর বয়সে নিজ শহর ইতালির ফোরেন্সে চিরঘুমের দেশে পাড়ি জমিয়েছেন আমৃত্যু সংগ্রামী ওরিয়ানা ফাল্লাচি ।(ইনফরমেশন গুলো ইন্টারনেট থেকে নেওয়া ও কিছু অনুবাদ করা)

১৯৭২ সালের ফেব্রিয়ারীতে ফেল্লাচি বাংলাদেশে আসেন শেখ মুজিবের সাক্ষাতকার নেবার জন্য।এই সাক্ষাতকারে মুজিব কেমন ধরনের মানুষ ছিলেন সেই সম্পর্কে বিষদ বিবরন তিনি দিয়েছেন।সাক্ষাতকারটি এতো বড় যে সেটা এখানে তুলে দেওয়া সম্ভব নয়।এই সাক্ষাতকারটির অংশগুলো আমি সাংবাদিক এবং অনুবাদক আনোয়ার হোসাইন মঞ্জুর লেখা থেকে সম্পাদনা করেছি।

রবিবার সন্ধ্যা : আমি কলকাতা হয়ে ঢাকার পথে যাত্রা করেছি। সত্যি বলতে কি, ১৮ ডিসেম্বর মুক্তিবাহিনী তাদের বেয়নেট দিয়ে যে যজ্ঞ চালিয়েছে তা প্রত্যক্ষ করার পর পৃথিবীতে আমার অন্তিম ইচ্ছা এটাই ছিল যে, এই ঘৃণ্য নগরীতে আমি আর পা ফেলবো না। এ রকম সিদ্ধান্ত আমি নিয়েই ফেলেছিলাম। কিন্তু আমার সম্পাদকের ইচ্ছা যে, আমি মুজিবের সাক্ষাৎকার গ্রহণ করি। ভুট্টো তাকে মুক্তি দেয়ার পর আমার সম্পাদকের এই সিদ্ধান্ত যথার্থ ছিল। তিনি কি ধরনের মানুষ? আমার সহকর্মীরা স্বীকৃতি দিল, তিনি মহান ব্যক্তি, সুপারম্যান। তিনিই একমাত্র ব্যক্তি যিনি দেশকে সমস্যামুক্ত করে গণতন্ত্রের পথে পরিচালিত করতে পারেন।
আমার স্মরণ হলো, ১৮ ডিসেম্বর আমি যখন ঢাকায় ছিলাম, তখন লোকজন বলছিল, ‘মুজিব থাকলে সেই নির্মম, ভয়ঙ্কর ঘটনা কখনোই ঘটতো না। মুজিব প্রত্যাবর্তন করলে এ ধরনের ঘটনার পুনরাবৃত্তি ঘটবে না’। কিন্তু গতকাল মুক্তিবাহিনী কেন আরো ৫০ জন নিরীহ বিহারিকে হত্যা করেছে? ‘টাইম’ ম্যাগাজিন কেন তাকে নিয়ে বিরাট প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন দিয়ে হেডলাইন করেছে? আমি বিস্মিত হয়েছি, এই ব্যক্তিটি ১৯৬৯ সালের নভেম্বরে সাংবাদিক অ্যালডো শানতিনিকে এক সাক্ষাৎকারে বলেছিলেন, আমার দেশে আমি সবচেয়ে সাহসী এবং নির্ভীক মানুষ, আমি বাংলার বাঘ, দিকপাল ... এখানে যুক্তির কোনো স্থান নেই ...।’ আমি বুঝে উঠতে পারিনি, আমার কি ভাবা উচিত।......

...... আমরা রান্নাঘরে প্রবেশ করে দেখলাম, মুজিবের স্ত্রী খাচ্ছেন। সঙ্গে খাচ্ছে তার ভাগনে ও মামাতো ভাইবোনেরা। একটা গামলায় ভাত-তরকারি মাখিয়ে আঙ্গুল দিয়ে মুখে পুরে দিচ্ছে সবাই। এ দেশে খাওয়ার পদ্ধতি এ রকমই। মুজিবের স্ত্রী আমাকে উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা জানালেন। ঠিক তখনই মুজিব এলেন। সহসা রান্নাঘরের মুখে তার আবির্ভাব হলো। তার পরনে এক ধরনের সাদা পোশাক, যাতে আমার কাছে তাকে মনে হয়েছিল একজন প্রাচীন রোমান হিসেবে। পোশাকের কারণে তাকে দীর্ঘ ও ঋজু মনে হচ্ছিল। তার বয়স একান্ন হলেও তিনি সুপুরুষ। ককেশীয় ধরনের সুন্দর চেহারা। চশমা ও গোফে সে চেহারা হয়েছে আরো বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত। যে কারো মনে হবে, তিনি বিপুল জনতাকে নেতৃত্ব দেয়ার যোগ্যতাসম্পন্ন ব্যক্তি। তিনি স্বাস্থ্যের অধিকারী।

আমি সোজা তার কাছে গিয়ে পরিচয় পেশ করলাম এবং আমার উদ্দেশ্য ব্যক্ত করলাম। মি. সরকার ভূমিতে পতিত হয়ে মুজিবের পদচুম্বন করলেন। আমি মুজিবের হাতটা আমার হাতে নিয়ে বললাম, ‘এই নগরীতে আপনি ফিরে এসেছেন দেখে আমি আনন্দিত, যে নগরী আশঙ্কা করছিল যে আপনি আর কোনোদিন এখানে ফিরবেন না।’ তিনি আমার দিকে তাকালেন একটু উষ্মার সঙ্গে। একটু অবজ্ঞার হাসি হেসে বললেন, ‘আমার সেক্রেটারির সঙ্গে কথা বলো।’
আমার দ্বিধা ও সন্দেহের কারণ উপলব্ধি করা সহজ। মুজিবকে আমি জেনে এসেছি একজন গণতন্ত্রী ও সমাজতন্ত্রী হিসেবে। যখন আমি দম নিচ্ছিলাম, একজন যুবক আমার কাছে এসে বললো, সে ভাইস সেক্রেটারি। বিনয়ের সঙ্গে সে প্রতিশ্রুতি দিল, বিকাল চারটার সময় আমি ‘সরকারি বাসভবনে’ হাজির থাকতে পারলে আমাকে দশ মিনিট সময় দেয়া হবে।...

সেই সময়ের ঢাকা নগরীকে তিনি এই ভাবে তুলে ধরেছেন- ......বিকাল সাড়ে তিনটায় নগরী ক্লান্ত, নিস্তব্ধ, ঘুমন্ত মধ্যাহ্নের বিশ্রাম নিচ্ছে। রাস্তায় কাধে রাইফেল ঝুলানো মুক্তিবাহিনী টহল দিচ্ছে। যুদ্ধ শেষ হয়েছে এক মাসেরও বেশি সময় আগে। কিন্তু এখনো তাদের হাতে অস্ত্র আছে। তারা রাত-দিন টহল দেয়। এলোপাতাড়ি বাতাসে গুলি ছোড়ে এবং মানুষ হত্যা করে। হত্যা না করলে দোকানপাট লুট করে। কেউ তাদের থামাতে পারে না, এমনকি মুজিবও না। সম্ভবত তিনি তাদের থামাতে সক্ষম নন। তিনি সন্তুষ্ট এজন্য যে, নগরীর প্রাচীর তার পোস্টার সাইজের ছবিতে একাকার। মুজিবকে আমি আগে যেভাবে জেনেছিলাম, তার সঙ্গে আমার দেখা মুজিবকে মেলাতে পারছি না।...

ফেল্লাচি মুজিবের চারিত্রিক এবং ব্যক্তিত্যের বৈশিষ্ট্য নিয়ে নিজেকেই প্রশ্ন করেছেন এইভাবে... সোমবার সন্ধ্যা : আমি যে তার সাক্ষাৎকার নিয়েছি এটা ছিল একটা দুর্বিপাক। তার মানসিক যোগ্যতা সম্পর্কে আমার সন্দেহ ছিল। এমনকি হতে পারে যে, কারাগার এবং মৃত্যু সম্পর্কে ভীতি তার মস্তিষ্ককে ভীষণভাবে আলোড়িত করেছে? তার ভারসাম্যহীনতাকে আমি আর কোনোভাবেই ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারি না। একই সময়ে আমি বলতে চাচ্ছি, কারাগার এবং মৃত্যুর ভয় ইত্যাদি... সম্পর্কে কাহিনীগুলো... আমার কাছে এখনো খুব স্পষ্ট নয়। এটা কি করে হতে পারে যে, তাকে যে রাতে গ্রেফতার করা হলো, সে রাতে সব পর্যায়ের লোককে হত্যা করা হলো? কি করে কি করে এটা হতে পারে যে, তাকে কারাগারের একটি প্রকোষ্ঠ থেকে পলায়ন করতে দেয়া হলো, যেটি তার সমাধিসৌধ হতো? তিনি কি গোপনে ভুট্টোর সঙ্গে ষড়যন্ত্র করেছিলেন? আমি যতো তাকে পর্যবেক্ষণ করেছি, ততো মনে হয়েছে, তিনি (মুজিব) কিছু একটা লুকাচ্ছেন।...
এরপর ফেল্লাচি মুজিবের অফিসে যায় এবং তার সাথে কথা বলার বিবরন দিতে গিয়ে বলেন মুজিব তারসাথে খুব একটা ভালো ব্যবহার করেননি।তিনি সাক্ষাতকারটি এইভাবে নিয়েছেন- কেউ আমাকে অভ্যর্থনা জানালো না। কেউ আমার উপস্থিতিকে গ্রাহ্য করলো না। মুজিব আমাকে বসতে বলার সৌজন্য প্রদর্শন না করা পর্যন্ত সুদীর্ঘক্ষণ নীরবতা বিরাজ করছিল। আমি সোফার ক্ষুদ্র প্রান্তে বসে টেপ রেকর্ডার খুলে প্রথম প্রশ্ন করার প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছি। কিন্তু আমার সে সময়ও ছিল না। মুজিব চিৎকার শুরু করলেন, ‘হারি আপ, কুইক, আন্ডারস্ট্যান্ড? নষ্ট করার মতো সময় আমার নেই। ইজ দ্যাট ক্লিয়ার?... পাকিস্তানিরা ত্রিশ লক্ষ লোক হত্যা করেছে, ইজ দ্যাট কিয়ার... আমি বললাম, ‘মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার...।’ মুজিব আবার চিৎকার শুরু করলেন, ‘ওরা আমার নারীদেরকে তাদের স্বামী ও সন্তানদের সামনে হত্যা করেছে। স্বামীদের হত্যা করেছে তাদের ছেলে ও স্ত্রীর সামনে। মা-বাপের সামনে ছেলেকে, ভাইবোনের সামনে ভাইবোনকে ... ‘মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার... আমি বলতে চাই...’
‘তোমার কোনো কিছু চাওয়ার অধিকার নেই, ইজ দ্যাট রাইট?’
‘আমার প্রথম প্রতিক্রিয়া হলো। কিন্তু একটা বিষয় সম্পর্কে আমি আরো কিছু জানতে চাই।’ বিষয়টা আমি বুঝতে পারছিলাম না। ‘মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার, গ্রেফতারের সময় কি আপনার ওপর নির্যাতন করা হয়েছিল।’
‘নো, ম্যাডাম নো। তারা জানতো, ওতে কিছু হবে না। তারা আমার বৈশিষ্ট্য, আমার শক্তি, আমার সম্মান, আমার মূল্য, বীরত্ব সম্পর্কে জানতো, আন্ডারস্ট্যান্ড?’
‘তা বুঝলাম। কিন্তু আপনি কি করে বুঝলেন যে তারা আপনাকে ফাঁসিতে ঝোলাবে? ফাঁসিতে ঝুলিয়ে কি মৃত্যুদণ্ড কার্যকর করা হয়?’
‘নো, নো ডেথ সেনটেন্স।’
এই পর্যায়ে তাকে দ্বিধাগ্রস্ত মনে হলো এবং তিনি গল্প বলতে শুরু করলেন, ‘আমি এটা জানতাম। কারণ ১৫ ডিসেম্বর ওরা আমাকে কবর দেয়ার জন্য একটা গর্ত খনন করে।’
‘কোথায় খনন করা হয়েছিল সেটা?’
‘আমার সেলের ভেতরে।’
‘আমাকে কি বুঝে নিতে হবে যে গর্তটা ছিল আপনার সেলের ভেতরে?’
‘ইউ মিস আন্ডারস্ট্যান্ড।’
‘আপনার প্রতি কেমন আচরণ করা হয়েছে মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার?’
‘আমাকে একটা নির্জন প্রকোষ্ঠে রাখা হয়েছিল। এমনকি আমাকে সাক্ষাৎকারের অনুমতি দেয়া হতো না, সংবাদপত্র পাঠ করতে বা চিঠিপত্রও দেয়া হতো না, আন্ডারস্ট্যান্ড?’’
‘তাহলে আপনি কি করেছেন?’
‘আমি অনেক চিন্তা করেছি, পড়াশোনা করেছি।’
‘আপনি কি পড়েছেন?’
‘বই এবং অন্যান্য জিনিস।’
‘তাহলে আপনি কিছু পড়েছেন।’
‘হ্যা, কিছু পড়েছি’।
‘কিন্তু আমার ধারণা হয়েছিল, আপনাকে কোনো কিছুই পড়তে দেয়া হয়নি।’
‘ইউ মিস আন্ডারস্টুড।’
‘তা বটে মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার। কিন্তু এটা কি করে হলো যে, শেষ পর্যন্ত ওরা আপনাকে ফাঁসিতে ঝোলালো না।’
‘জেলার আমাকে সেল থেকে পালাতে সহায়তা করেছেন এবং তার বাড়িতে আশ্রয় দিয়েছেন।’
‘কেন, তিনি কি কোনো নির্দেশ পেয়েছিলেন?’
‘আমি জানি না। এ ব্যাপারে তার সঙ্গে আমি কোনো কথা বলিনি এবং তিনিও আমার সঙ্গে কিছু বলেননি।’
‘নীরবতা সত্ত্বেও কি আপনারা বন্ধুতে পরিণত হয়েছিলেন?’
‘হ্যা, আমাদের মধ্যে বহু আলোচনা হয়েছে এবং তিনি সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছিলেন, আমাকে সাহায্য করতে চান।’
‘তাহলে আপনি তার সঙ্গে কথা বলেছেন?’
‘হ্যা, আমি তার সঙ্গে কথা বলেছি।’
‘আমি ভেবেছিলাম, আপনি কারো সঙ্গেই কথা বলেননি।’
‘ইউ মিস আন্ডারস্টুড।’
‘তা হবে মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার। যে লোকটি আপনার জীবন রক্ষা করলো আপনি কি তার প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা অনুভব করেন না?’
‘এটা ছিল ভাগ্য। আমি ভাগ্যে বিশ্বাস করি।’...
এরপর ফেল্লাচি মুজিবের সাথে নানা প্রসঙ্গে জানতে চান কিন্তু শেখ মুজিব তাকে ডমিনেট করে কথা বলতে থাকে।মুজিবের ব্যক্তিগত সম্পত্তির দুঃখ যে তার মনকস্টের কারন হয়ে আছে সেটা ফেল্লাচির কাছে অবাক করেছে।ফেল্লাচি বিষয়টিকে এভাবে লিখেছে-
... আমার বাড়ি, জমি, সম্পত্তি ধ্বংস করেছে, আমার...(মুজিব)।’

তিনি যখন তার সম্পত্তির অংশে পৌছলেন, তার মধ্যে এমন একটা ভাব দেখা গেল, যা থেকে তাকে এ প্রশ্নটা করার প্রয়োজনীয়তা বোধ করলাম যে, তিনি সত্যিই সমাজতন্ত্রী কি না? তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, ‘হ্যা...’। তার কণ্ঠে দ্বিধা। তাকে আবার বললাম, সমাজতন্ত্র বলতে তিনি কি বোঝেন? তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, ‘সমাজতন্ত্র’। তাতে আমার মনে হলো, সমাজতন্ত্র সম্পর্কে তার যথার্থ ধারণা নেই।
এরপর ১৮ ডিসেম্বর হত্যাযজ্ঞ সম্পর্কে তার প্রতিক্রিয়া জানতে চাইলে তিনি রাগে ফেটে পড়লেন। নিচের অংশটুকু আমার টেপ থেকে নেয়া:
‘ম্যাসাকার? হোয়াট ম্যাসাকার?’
‘ঢাকা স্টেডিয়ামে মুক্তিবাহিনীর দ্বারা সংঘটিত ঘটনাটি।’
‘ঢাকা স্টেডিয়ামে কোনো ম্যাসাকার হয়নি। তুমি মিথ্যে বলছো।’
‘মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার, আমি মিথ্যেবাদী নই। সেখানে আরো সাংবাদিক ও পনেরো হাজার লোকের সঙ্গে আমি হত্যাকা- প্রত্যক্ষ করেছি। আপনি চাইলে আমি আপনাকে তার ছবিও দেখাবো। আমার পত্রিকায় সে ছবি প্রকাশিত হয়েছে।’
‘মিথ্যেবাদী, ওরা মুক্তিবাহিনী নয়।’
“মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার, দয়া করে ‘মিথ্যেবাদী’ শব্দটি আর উচ্চারণ করবেন না। তারা মুক্তিবাহিনী। তাদের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছিল আবদুল কাদের সিদ্দিকী এবং তারা ইউনিফর্ম পরা ছিল।”
‘তাহলে হয়তো ওরা রাজাকার ছিল যারা প্রতিরোধের বিরোধিতা করেছিল এবং কাদের সিদ্দিকী তাদের নির্মূল করতে বাধ্য হয়েছে।’
‘মি. প্রাইম মিনিস্টার, কেউ প্রমাণ করেনি যে, লোকগুলো রাজাকার ছিল এবং কেউই প্রতিরোধের বিরোধিতা করেনি। তারা ভীতসন্ত্রস্ত ছিল। হাত-পা বাধা থাকায় তারা নড়াচড়াও করতে পারছিল না।’
‘মিথ্যেবাদী।’
“শেষবারের মতো বলছি, আমাকে ‘মিথ্যেবাদী’ বলার অনুমতি আপনাকে দেবো না।”
‘আচ্ছা সে অবস্থায় তুমি কি করতে?’
‘আমি নিশ্চিত হতাম যে, ওরা রাজাকার ও অপরাধী। ফায়ারিং স্কোয়াডে দিতাম এবং এভাবেই এই ঘৃণ্য হত্যাকা- এড়াতাম।’
‘ওরা ওভাবে করেনি। হয়তো আমার লোকদের কাছে বুলেট ছিল না।’
‘হ্যা তাদের কাছে বুলেট ছিল। প্রচুর বুলেট ছিল। এখনো তাদের কাছে প্রচুর বুলেট রয়েছে। তা দিয়ে সকাল থেকে রাত পর্যন্ত গুলি ছোড়ে। ওরা গাছে, মেঘে, আকাশে, মানুষের প্রতি গুলি ছোড়ে শুধু আনন্দ করার জন্য।...

ফেল্লাচির প্রতি মুজিব যে দূর্ব্যবহার করেছে তার জন্য সেটি তিনি এভাবে বিবৃত করেছেন- ......সোমবার রাত : গোটা ঢাকা নগরী জেনে গেছে, মুজিব ও আমার মধ্যে কি ঘটেছে। শমশের ওয়াদুদ নামে একজন লোক ছাড়া আমার পক্ষে আর কেউ নেই। লোকটি মুজিবের বড় বোনের ছেলে। এই যুবক নিউ ইয়র্ক থেকে এসেছে তার মামার কাছে। তার মতে মুজিব ক্ষমতালোভী এবং নিজের সম্পর্কে অতি উচ্চ ধারণাসম্পন্ন অহঙ্কারী ব্যক্তি। তার মামা খুব মেধাসম্পন্ন নয়। বাইশ বছর বয়সে মুজিব হাইস্কুলের পড়াশোনা শেষ করেছেন। আওয়ামী লীগ সভাপতির সচিব হিসেবে তিনি রাজনীতিতে প্রবেশ করেন। এছাড়া আর কিছু করেননি তিনি। কেউ কল্পনাও করতে পারেনি যে, মুজিব একদিন প্রধানমন্ত্রী হবেন। ওয়াদুদের মতে, আত্মীয়স্বজনের সঙ্গে দুর্ব্যবহারের কারণ এটা নয়। আসলে একমাত্র ওয়াদুদের মাকেই মুজিব ভয় করেন। এই দুঃখজনক আচরণের জন্য তিনি পারিবারিকভাবে প্রতিবাদ জানাবেন।...

ফেল্লাচি ৭০ এর নির্বাচনের প্রসঙ্গে বলেছেন- কেউ কি জানে ১৯৭০ এর নির্বাচনে তিনি কেন বিজয়ী হয়েছিলেন? কারণ সব মাওবাদী তাকে ভোট দিয়েছিল। সাইক্লোনে মাওবাদীদের অফিস বিধ্বস্ত হয়েছিল এবং তাদের নেতা ভাসানী আওয়ামী লীগের পক্ষে ভোট দেয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছিলেন। জনগণকে যদি আবার ভোট দিতে বলা হয়, তাহলে মুজিবের অবস্থা সম্পূর্ণ ভিন্নতর হবে, যদি তিনি বন্দুকের সাহায্যে তার ইচ্ছাকে চাপিয়ে দিতে না চান। সেজন্যই তিনি মুক্তিবাহিনীকে অস্ত্রসমর্পণের নির্দেশ দিচ্ছেন না এবং আমাদের স্মরণ রাখতে হবে, রক্তপিপাসু কসাই, যে ঢাকা স্টেডিয়ামে হত্যাযজ্ঞ করেছিল, সেই আবদুল কাদের সিদ্দিকী তার ব্যক্তিগত উপদেষ্টা।...

ফেল্লাচি দ্বিতীয়বারের মত মুজিবের সাথে সাক্ষাতের জন্য রাষ্ট্রপতির দ্বারস্ত হন এবং তিনি মুজিবকে অনুরোধ করতে গেলে উলটো ধমক খান।যাইহোক ফেল্লাচি আবার মুজিবের সাথে দেখা করার একটা ব্যবস্থা করেন।সময়মত তার কক্ষে প্রবেশ করতেই তাকে বের হয়ে যেতে বলে শেখ মুজিব।

অাওয়ামী লীগ নেতা গাজী গোলাম মোস্তফা ছিলো শেখ কামালের বন্ধু।এদের প্রায় ত্রিশজনের একটা দল ছিলো।বিভিন্ন জায়গায় এরা অাডডা মারতো। অাবার সেনাবাহিনীর অফিসারদের কোন পার্টি হলে সেখানেও এই দলটি উপস্থিত হতো।দলের মধ্যে তৎকালীন প্রেসিডেন্টের ছেলে হওয়ায় দলটির ক্ষমতাই ছিলো অন্যরকম।কাউকে তোয়াক্কা করতোনা তারা। একটি বিয়ের পার্টিতে মেজর ডালিমের বউকে গাজী গোলাম মোস্তফারর ছেলে তার উদ্দেশ্যে অশালীন মন্তব্য করে।এবং এক পর্যায়ে মেজর ডািলমের স্ত্রীর হাত ধরে টানাটানি করে।এই অবস্থায় ডালিম বাধা দিতে গেলে তার সাথে গোলাম মোস্তফারর ছেলের ঝগড়া হয়।শেখ কামাল সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিলো। সে সরাসরি তার বন্ধুর পক্ষ নেয়।এবং মেজর ডালিমের বউকে তুলে নিয়ে যায়। তথ্যসূত্র : তিনটি অভ্যুত্থান ও কিছু না বলা কথা,

সময়কাল ১৯৭৩ সালের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর দিবাগত রাত।শেখ কামাল ও তার সহযোগীরা অস্ত্র হাতে রাজধানীতে কুখ্যাত সাদা রঙের মাইক্রোবাস নিয়ে নেমেছে। উদ্দ্যেশ্য ব্যাংক ডাকাতি। অন্যদিকে শহরজুড়ে সিরাজ সিকদারের অাগমন ধ্বনিতে কম্পমান মুজিবও তার চ্যালা চামুন্ডারা।পুলিশবাহিনী চরম স্নায়ুযুদ্ধে ভুগছে।ব্যাংক ডাকাতির চেষ্টাকালে শেখ কামালের দলবলকে সিরাজ সিকদারের দল মনে করে গুলী চালায় সার্জেন্ট কিবরীয়া।অাহত হয় শেখ কামাল।পরদিন গনকন্ঠ পত্রিকায় বিস্তািরত ছাপা হয় মুজিব পুত্রের ব্যাংক ডাকাতির কাহিনি। তথ্যসূত্র :

Even such Mujib bhokto offiers like General Moinul H Chowdhury, Colonel Shafaat Jamil and others did not hesitate to speak what was truth about Mujib, his sons and Ziaur Rahman. Shafaat wrote in his book: they went to ZiaurRahman after the announcement that Mujib was dead. 

"President is dead, so what?" balked Ziaur Rahman to Major Rashid (a coup leader) and Shafaat. Zia was still in his night dress. "There is a Vice-President. Why have you come to me? The constitutional process should be upheld."

How do you know? You were not there? Obaid was not there either unless he was one of the participants? So, these military scums went to Mujib's residence to arrest him? He did not comply and consequently, they killed everybody including children and women? And, you would not mind if that had happened to your family. So, people could have done that to your family and you would have taken that as your fate? Fabulous!

I and many others are also part of the people. People did not invade Mujib's residence and killed women and children? Many people supported Zia's killing too? That is acceptable to you, I suppose?

Look, I do not know any Obaid Chowdhury and I do care what he writes and preaches. He is not a historian. He is a blogger and no more qualified than you or me. 

All Awami leaguers were not cut from the same clothe. Mostaque and many others chose murders before civility and civilian rule. They might not be Razakars per se but their behavior were criminal and reprehensible. But that was their rights. What do I care but I would never condone cold blooded murders of children and women. That kind of mentality would only backfire us. The turn could be yours next time.

আওয়ামী চাপাবাজি ও বাকশালী-ইতিহাস-রচনাকারীদের কেও আর বিশ্বাস করে না। দুনিয়ার সবাই জানে এই সব পুরানো কথা !! আওয়ামী  আর্মি প্রধান শফিউল,  উপ-প্রধান শাফায়েত জামিল,  খালেদ মোসারফ এই সব প্রধান প্রধান আওয়ামী খুনিদের কথা বলে কি লজ্জা লাগে ???  জিয়া তো ৪ মাস পরে ক্ষমতায় এসেছে অনেক নিচে থেকে, যখন আওয়ামী আর দেশদ্রোহী জাসদের কুত্তারা কামড়াকামড়ি করে, একটার পর একটা সামরিক অভ্যুত্থান চেষ্টা করে দেশটাকে টুকরা টুকরা করছিল !! তখন ৭১ এর বীর মুক্তিযুদ্ধা  আবারও দেশে উদ্ধারের ডাকে নিজ দায়িত্বে বিশাল বোঝা নিজ কাধে নিয়েছে !! আবারও মুজিবের স্বাধীনতার চেতনা, লুন্ঠিত গণতন্ত্র, পুনরুদ্ধার করেছে !! আবারো মুজিবের লুন্ঠিত স্বাধীনতার চেতনা, বাক স্বাধীনতা, পুনরুদ্ধার করেছে !! আবারো বাকশালের হাত থেকে আওয়ামীলীগ কে পুনঃজীবন দান করেছে !!      

মুজিবের  উদ্দেশ্য ছিল  একটাই,  যে কোনো প্রকারে ক্ষমতা !! শেখ হায়নার মতো !! সেজন্য মুজিব খুনি ইয়াহিয়ার সাথেই ২৫থ মার্চ পর্যন্ত পুরা পাকিস্তানের প্রধান মন্ত্রী হবার জন্য আলোচনা চালিয়ে গিয়েছিলো!!  দেশের মানুষ স্বাধীনতা চাওয়া সর্তেও, স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা না করে !   সেজন্য মুজিব আমাদের স্বাধীনতার   চেতনা গণতন্ত্র ও বাক স্বাধীনতাকে নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষণা করে, ধর্ষণ করে,  স্বৈরাচারী একনায়কতান্ত্রিক বাকশাল প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিল, বাংলাদেশের প্রথম স্বৈরাচারী শাসক হয়েছিল !! মুজিব যদি নির্মূল না হতো, বাংলাদেশ আজও বাকশালের কষাঘাতে জর্জরিত হতো, কিউবার মতো ফ্যাসিস্ট একনায়কতান্রিক দেশ হতো ! বাংলাদেশ কোনোদিন  আর গণতন্ত্র অবাক স্বাধীনতার মুখ দেখতো না !!   স্বৈরশাসক মুজিবের সেই বাকশাল-১ স্বপ্নকে আজ তার ডাইনি দানবী কন্যা শুধু মাত্র  ১৬ কলা বাস্তবায়িত করেনি, বাকশাল-২  আরও লক্ষ লক্ষ্যগুন ছাড়িয়ে আরও ভয়ানক স্বৈরশাসন ও পুলিশি রাষ্ট্র পরিনিত করেছে!! তার সাথে এখন আবার দেশদ্রোহী-মূলক দেশ বিক্রি করা যোগ করেছে !! ভারতকে বাংলাদেশ গণতন্ত্র, সীমান্ত, ট্রানজিট, বন্দর, সুন্দরবন, নদী, বেবসা, বাজার সব বিকিয়ে দিয়েছে, অবৈধভাবে  ক্ষমতার কুক্ষিগত করার জন্য !!!

একদিন ছিলেন তিনি শেখ মুজিবর রহমান, সেখানে থেকে হলেন বঙ্গবন্ধু।  পরে হলেন জাতির পিতা। কিন্তু তার আওলাদরা সেখানেই থেমে গেলো না, তাকে বানিয়ে দিতে চাইছে নবী। 

 

  

আর এভাবেই তোষামোদিতে ওয়ার্ল্ড রেকর্ড করে, একদিন একজন রাজনৈতিক নেতাকে, বাংলাদেশে এক রাজনৈতিক দল নেতা থেকে নবী বানিয়ে দিল। (নাউজুবিল্লাহ)।

  

  

কিন্তু এই জাতি এখানে থেমে যাওয়ার মতন না। তোষামোদিতে পরবর্তী রেকর্ডও তারা গড়বে নিশ্চিত থাকুন। তাই পরবর্তী ভূষণ হবে বাংলার খোদা। (নাউজুবিল্লাহ, নাউজুবিল্লাহ, নাউজুবিল্লাহ)

  

  

কিন্তু যা আমার মাথায় আসল না, তা হলো মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় উজ্জীবিত, ধর্ম নিরপেক্ষ, সদা ইসলাম বিরোধী, ভারতপ্রতিম এই দল ইসলামের নবী নিয়ে এত টানাটানি কেন করছে? স্বয়ং শেখ হাসিনা যেখানে ভালো ফসলের জন্য মা লক্ষ্মীর নাম নেন, শেখ হাসিনার উপস্থিতিতে রোজার মাসে ক্যান্টনমেন্টে আজান দেয়া বন্ধ রাখে, আন্তর্জাতিক খেলা চলাকালে ঢাকা স্টেডিয়ামে আজানের সময় আজান দেয়া বন্ধ রাখে, আমপারা-সিপারা-কোরআন-হাদিসের বইকে জঙ্গি বই হিসাবে ট্রিট করে, বিভিন্ন জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ইসলামিক লেবাস আর হিজাব নিষিদ্ধ করে, সেখানে  তারা তাদের চেতনার গুরু কে ইসলামিক আখ্যায় ভূষিত করছে কেন?

  

তারচেয়ে মোর এপ্রোপ্রিয়েট হবে যদি তারা শেখ মুজিব কে এই যুগের রাম, অর্জুন ইত্যাদি খেতাব ভূষিত করে, আর পরিশেষে ভগবান। তাতে নিজেরা তো যাতে উঠবেই সেই সাথে পার্শ্ববর্তী দাদাদেরকেও খুশি করা হবে।

There are target of bombing but bombing has collateral. I have not ever observed you talking about any other collateral. Any kind of killing is bad, whether judicial or brutal. According to Tajuddin Ahmed Mujib's did not keep any option open for himself. Per Syed Nazrul Islam, "Shalar poot nijeyo morlo, amader o maira gelo." Best was by Abdul Malek Ukil. "Bangladesh got rid of a feraun". 

Be logical, not emotional. Tyrants always get killed. You can not find otherwise.

Did anyone hear the word "Secularism" before January 10, 1972? Did Sheikh Mujib ever used the term during his political speeches leading to his party's victory in the December 1970 elections? Or before? As far as I remember Mujib always used the term Insha Allah during his speeches, including that on March 7, 1971.

Many pseudo pundits say Secularism was one of Bangladesh's cardinal principles during the 1971 independence war. Having been an FF, I had not heard of the world in 1971. Yes, "Joy Bangla" was our war slogan.   

In a country with more than 90% belonging to one faith, isn't it ridiculous and absurd to talk about Secularism? Look at secular India. I don't have to list the sectarian violences since 1947 there; everybody should know it. See what is happening in Kashmir and with the the "sacred cow!" 

I believe, secularism has been the cause of all religious violence in Bangladesh. When it (secularism) was not there, even during the Pakistan time, has anyone heard or saw a large scale problem between the Muslims and other faith groups? Not to my knowledge. 

Let the people follow and profess their own faith in peace and harmony, even some choose to be atheists. No need to unbalance the society with an unnecessary institutionalization of Secularism.

Where is the so called  BS 'Secualrism'  when  the State imposes the State-written-dictated Khutba in Friday Payer ? 

Whatever happened to the  separation of state and religion stipulated by Secularism? Whatever happened to the Religious freedom that Secularism supposed to guarantee ?

The elimination of the that BAKSALI dictator Mujib was one of the BEST thing that has happened to Bangladesh. One Awmai dog Mustak killed another Awami super dictator Mujib with the help of others dogs like Jasod's Inu, Badol, Anwar, Taher etc. anti-state elements who had launched arm-war against the state and against Mujib. At the time the Indian Dalals like Tofael, SUronjit,  army chief Shafiullah  were standing quiet, at the direction of India ! 

The dog fights for power, left each other deads. 40 thousands youth were driven to death by Jassod, and murdered by Rokkhi Bahini.   The shameless unscrupulous Awami now make these dogs & Mujib killers friends (Inu, Badol, Anwar etc.)

Bangladeshi people care less about these power hungry dictators &  anti-state criminals. 

It was a blessing for Bangladesh that the dictator was gone. At least Bangladesh tasted some democracy and free speech for a brief period until the BAKSAL-2, led by the Dictator Mujib's  daughter, Shekh Hasina, the most EVIL dictator and traitor Bangladesh has ever faced, has taken over.  

The Evil Hasina and her BAKSAL-2's goom-khun atrocities, democracy killing, country selling  proves so resoundingly  that the elimination of BAKSAL-1 & Mujib were so  RIGHT and CORRECT act.  Now the time is to eliminate this EVIL BAKSAL-2 regime, who not only took away our democracy and freedom and freedom of speech, but also sold out country, piece by piece to its  master India.

If you keep your thoughts in your brain and can't spell it out what you mean, then it is you who should be editing your post to make your message clear. Obviously, you do not have the capacity of meeting that kind of task. Mandela did not face homegrown Razakar but Mujib did. That is the cardinal difference. Bangladesh did not need any Mandela as South Africa did not need a Mujib. But if Mujib were paranoid enough like Castro, many heads would been rolled and a different Bangladesh would have emerged by now.

A men's contribution of  sperm in the birthing of a child does not constitute the fatherhood, but simply limit his role as biological necessity!   The  RESPONSIBILITY of  providing food, education, shelter, protection, moral guidance and ethical development among the inherently incumbent of a fatherhood.  If that sperm donner  becomes the chauvinistic tyrant father who abuses, beats up, molests the children, deprive them of food, education, moral guidance, then that father is a name-only-father, a dead-beat father, a molesting criminal father.  There are laws to protect the children from these types of abusive fathers.  

Similarly, providing the political leadership for the political movement of autonomy which later carried on and materialized as independence  by the brave people of Bangladesh, only gives Mujib the claim of being the founding father.  But when it came to taking up the responsibility of the nation, nurturing the  holy democracy, equal rights, and very freedom of speech for which we had fought the war for, Mujib totally betrayed the nation and became the  first dictator of Bangladesh by taking those very principles and rights away form the people, in the name of BAKSAL and Power-by-any means. He gave birth to the hated RokkhiBahini who ran rampage throughout Bangladesh, raping people, murdering any opposing, dissenting people, looting and occupying banks, people's properties, businesses etc. Like the molesting and abusive dead-beat father, Mujib became the tormentor of the nation, molester of the nation. raper of the our independence spirits and values. 

Just as the molesting, raping, beating father has irrefutable claim of being  the biological father, Mujib also has the irrefutable claim for the leading founding father of the nation. Just as the molesting, abusing father is detested, is hated  and is harmful for the child,  the BAKSALI  Mujib is similarly hated, despised and rejected by the nation as the  'DHORSOK PITA'  who took away our honor, our rights, our freedom !!

100 million people of Bangladesh were not at gun point of "a few disgruntled majors" ( as described by the Awami trial process) that people could not express their "love" for Mujib, not even in outlying areas where not a soldier could be found within miles. Nor were there any government instructions or move to gather 2 million mourners at Zia's funeral. To understand Mujib, Zia or Mandela, one needs to travel back to their respective times. History cannot be made by someone's whims and fancies.

Some educators forgot that evidences come not only thru' surveys, but also observations. Yes, both the demises of Mujib and Zia happened via violence. For the last 5/6 years I've never saw them construct one single line worthy of substance/originality/analysis anything except barking against the Bangladeshi nationalism, against Bangladesh interests, against democracy, against human rights, and especially against Muslims and Islam.

I would agree only partly with Dr. Tuhin Malik. By mentioning those names  who were part of the August 15 political change, does he mean Mujib was innocent, a Dhoa Tulsi Pata? Not the least. 

Mujib dug his own grave. If anyone needed to be tried, it should have been Mujib himself for what he had done to Bangladesh in 1972-75.

২. ’৭৫-এর ১৫ই আগষ্ট বিশ্বাসঘাতকরা সপরিবারে নিমর্মভাবে বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার পর আওয়ামীলীগের তৎকালীন মন্ত্রী খন্দকার মোশতাকসহ বাকশালের ১৯জন মন্ত্রী তখন তাদের নেতার লাশের উপর দিয়েই আনন্দচিত্তে মন্ত্রীত্বের শপথ গ্রহন করেছিল। তাদের মধ্যে একজনও আজ পর্যন্ত বিচারের মুখোমুখি হয়নি কেন? বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যার নিমর্ম ট্রাজেডির সেন্টিমেন্টকে রাজনৈতিক অপব্যবহার করে ক্ষমতায় যাওয়া ও ক্ষমতায় টিকে থাকার কৌশল হিসাবে ব্যবহার করেছে তার দল। কিন্তু সত্যিই কি বঙ্গবন্ধু তার হত্যার ন্যায়বিচার পেয়েছেন? বিশ্বাসঘাতকরা কি তাদের জীবদ্দশায় কখনও শাস্তির মুখোমুখি হবে?

৩. ’৭৫-এর ১৫ই আগষ্ট বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার সময় খন্দকার মোশতাকের শপথ পরিচালনা করেন এইচ টি ইমাম। অথচ তিনিই আজ বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যার গুরুত্বপুর্ন উপদেষ্টা!

৪. ’৭৫-এর ১৫ই আগষ্ট বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার সময় সেনাবাহিনী প্রধান ছিলেন জেনারেল শফিউল্লাহ। অথচ স্বয়ং বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যা তাকে এমপি বানায়!

৫. ’৭৫-এর ১৫ই আগষ্ট বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার সময় বিমানবাহিনী প্রধান ছিলেন এ কে খন্দকার। অথচ স্বয়ং বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যা তাকে পরিকল্পনা মন্ত্রী বানায়!

৬. ’৭৫-এর ১৫ই আগষ্ট বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার সময় রক্ষীবাহিনী প্রধান ছিলেন তোফায়েল আহমেদ। অথচ তিনিই আজ বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যার সিনিয়র মন্ত্রী!

৭. বঙ্গবন্ধুকে প্রকাশ্য হত্যার হুমকি দিয়ে তার পিঠের চামড়া দিয়ে ডুগডুগি বাঁজানোর ঘোষনাদাতা মতিয়া চৌধুরী আজ স্বয়ং বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যার সবচেয়ে বিশ্বস্ত মন্ত্রী!

৮. বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যার পর কর্নেল তাহের বলেছিলেন ’উচিৎ ছিল বঙ্গবন্ধুর লাশ বঙ্গোপসাগরে ফেলে দেয়া’। অথচ সেই কর্নেল তাহেরই আজকের আওয়ামী লীগের বিশাল অনুপ্রেরণার উৎস!

৯. বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যার পর ট্যাংকের উপর জুতা হাতে নিয়ে প্রকাশ্য উল্লাসকারী হাসানুল হক ইনু আজকে বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যার লাঠিয়াল মন্ত্রী!

১০. বঙ্গবন্ধুকে প্রকৃত ভালোবাসতে হলে তার গুপ্ত ঘাতকদের অবশ্যই বিচারের মুখোমুখি করতে হবে। তার প্রতি পর্বতসম আবেগ আমাদের রয়েছে সত্য। কিন্তু এই মানুষটিরও নিজের জন্য ন্যায়বিচার চাওয়ার অধিকার রয়েছে। কিন্তু প্রশ্ন হলো, বঙ্গবন্ধুর বিদেহী আত্মা কার কাছে ন্যায়বিচার চাইবে?

Yes, I read it. Sometime back when I read another of your Urdu poems, I thought you were an Urdu Speaking person. But then I saw your command on Bengali too. Being a former soldier and having lived in W Pakistan for eight years (1963-71), I had to perforce learn it for the sake of my career. Within a few years, even Pakistanis appreciated my Urdu, speaking only. Frankly, I find the language sweet.

চশমখোর does not see so many witnesses (even in the blogs) about the brutality of Mujib on the people of Bangladesh, and his consequent fate enjoyed by his own people ( Malek Ukil dubbed Mujib a Feraun).

Honestly democracy doesn't make sense at all for BD at any time.  It never brought peace and development in its 45 years history.  If Aug 15 has given a re-birth to BD; we need another re-birth for governance by SELECTION ; and NOT by ELECTION.  We don't need Tom, Dick and Harry (Jodu, Modhu, Ram, Sham) politicians without education, any technical , or admin and management practice to be able to run this dismal country BD. 

Re India, we should put up something like the great wall of China or the Berlin wall so that our communication is only via the sea (the Bay of Bengal) and via Nepal, Burma/Myanman and the East. We don't need and want any help, or connection with a horrible neighbor India, the biggest looter, hypocrite and the stabber/killer from the back.  BD has repaid its 'reen' of 1971 help million times more.  We need to be bold to say that we don't need neighbor India.  Can't BD say that?  What's the objection?  If BD can say it against Israel (or South Africa in the past), why not against India for all its misdeeds.  BD should be transparent and not hiding its intentions in the cloak of love for India. 

Also, it WAS and still IS BD need to create conscription of all able bodied BD men (and women if necessary) and prepare a lethal defense strategy like neutral Switzerland.  We need to abolish and disband this armed forces which are of no use to BD in need.  The armed forces of BD are nothing less than the looters of BD like the politicians through their protected businesses, most secured pre-retirement and post-retirement jobs, and lavish housing complexes irrespective of the condition of the general population and the country's well being.  The future armed forces, for training the conscription populace, should be trained in PMA, Sandhurst and West Point and why not Switzerland.  Indian degrees should not be recognized henceforth so that nobody goes to India for any education whatsoever. We should ban India from all walks of life.  Then only BD shall be able to breath freely and develop itself.  Is BD ready?  If not, you can go on crying in the wilderness. 

So, lots needs to be done quickly.  Please abandon your cries for democracy and please cry for something well tested in BD, the SELECTED Care Taker Govt which has no bad records till now.

First of all, our acceptance, rejection or support or going against mean little. Nobody bothers what we say or hope. But because we love our country, or country of origin, we engage ourselves in this intellectual exercise. Of course, in the process we know each other's mind.

All patriots, in other words, all sane persons want to two things for Bangladesh: 1) Ouster of the current illegal and fascist regime the soonest, and 2) Keep the country out of Indian hegemonies. We want friendship with India on a win-win situation only, on sovereign equality.  

My position is, once the first objective (removal of the illegal/unelected government) is achieved, let the people decide, under a free choice, who they want as their representative to run the show. If they want Awami League, so be it. If they want Jamaat, so be it. If they want BNP, so be it. If they want a Chakku Mia, so be it. However, if BNP wants to lead the nation, it should clarify its position to the people with regard to what Maudud has recently said in India. I think it is a serious matter and cannot be ignored. Also, the party needs to show its strength.

Thanks RC Bhai Gani Bhai AB Bhai Zainul Bhai for your comments. I think we need BNP more than it needs us, despite whatever it does in the face of BAL brutalities. Like the Indian elephant, BNP is lying low under the impact of BAL formalin and has been effectively anastheticized. Like the elephant,  let the BNP rise up and stand on its feet if it at all can under the unceasing BAL beating. I'm more concerned about its unity with many leaders threatening to quit, which they must not do considering the fact that BNP is still the largest political party in Bdesh, much larger than the BAL.

রক্ষীবাহিনীকে অত্যাচার, নির্যাতন, লুটতরাজ ও গোপনে-প্রকাশ্যে হত্যাকান্ডের দায় থেকে মুক্তি দিতে জাতীয় রক্ষীবাহিনী আইনে এ সংশোধনী আনা হয়। এটা ছিল ১৯৭৪ সালের ১১নং আদেশ। ১৯৭৪ সালে জাতীয় রক্ষীবাহিনী আইনের সংশোধনী এনে এই ইনডেমনিটি দেয়া হয়। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান নিজেই রক্ষী বাহিনীর খুনিদের বাচানোর জন্য স্বাধীন দেশে এই আইনটি করেছিলেন।

অর্থাৎ রক্ষীবাহিনী কার্যক্রমের শুরু থেকে যা কিছু করেছে সবই দায়মুক্তি পায় ১৯৭৪ সালের সংশোধনীতে।

আরও প্রমাণ পাওয়া যায় সেই ঘটনার সময় উপস্থিত থাকা একজনের স্বাক্ষ্যতে। অধ্যাপক আসহাবউদ্দীন আহমদ / পথ চলিতে (১৯.০৪.১৯৬৯) ॥ [ অধ্যাপক আসহাবউদ্দীন আহমদ রচনাবলী – ১ গ্রন্থের ২৫৩-২৫৫ পৃষ্ঠায় লিখেছেন,
“… ২৩শে সেপ্টেম্বর (১৯৫৮)। এদেশের ইতিহাসের এক চরম কলঙ্কজনক দিন। জনগণের ভোটে নির্বাচিত কিন্তু জনগণের স্বার্থ বিরোধী এই নেতারা সেদিন দেশের ইতিহাসকে কল্পনাতীতভাবে মসীলিপ্ত করে। বাইরের ঐতিহাসিক, সাংবাদিক, সাহিত্যিক, রাজনীতিবিদদের কথা বাদ দিলাম। আমরা ৩০৯ জন পরিষদ সদস্য ছিলাম। তাদের মধ্যে কিছু কলমবাজ লোক তো ছিলেন। বামপন্থীদের মধ্যেও কেউ আজ পর্যন্ত এই দিনের ঘটনাবলীর একটি পূর্ণ বিবরণ লিখেননি। ঐদিনের কার্যবিবরণী, টেপ রেকর্ডার সব কিছু পরবর্তী সরকার বাজেয়াপ্ত করে। তা কোথায় আছে জানি না। জানলেও তা পাওয়া সহজ ব্যাপার নয়। কাজেই অনেক ক্ষেত্রে আমাকে স্মৃতি নির্ভর হতে হচ্ছে। আর সেদিনকার সেই বিয়োগান্ত নাটকীয় ব্যাপারটির নাটকীয় বর্ণনা আমার অদক্ষ হাতে সম্ভব নয়। তবু চাই যে এর একটা রেকর্ড থাকুক। ভবিষ্যৎ বংশধররা উপলব্ধি করবে তাদের পিতৃপুরুষরা শ্রেণী চেতনার অভাবে কাদের নামে ‘জিন্দাবাদ’ দিয়ে আকাশ বাতাস প্রকম্পিত করত। আর শ্রেণীগত কারণে, শ্রেণীশোষণের স্বার্থে এই নেতারা কী নির্মম, নির্লজ্জ, পাশবিক বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করত। জনতা কত মহান। আর এই ‘জননেতা’ নামধারীরা কত নিচ, কত হীন। জনতা কত নি:স্বার্থপর। আর এরা কত স্বার্থান্ধ, কত লোভাতুর, কত নির্লজ্জ।

২৩শে সেপ্টেম্বর (১৯৫৮) সম্পূরক (Supplementary) বাজেট পেশের সাথে সাথে দক্ষযজ্ঞ শুরু হয়ে গেল। মোহন মিয়া, নান্না মিয়া, নবী চৌধুরী প্রমুখ আবু হোসেন দলের নেতারা মাইক স্ট্যান্ড, চেয়ারের হাতল ইত্যাদি যা পেলেন তা ডেপুটি স্পীকার শাহেদ আলীর দিকে ছুঁড়ে মারতে লাগলেন। এ ব্যাপারে ফরিদপুরের মোহন মিয়া (ইউসুফ আলী চৌধুরী) ওস্তাদ ছিলেন। চরের জমি জবর দখলের সময় তিনি তার লাঠিয়াল বাহিনীর সাথে থাকতেন এবং নিজেই দাঙ্গা পরিচালনা করতেন। ওদিকে আওয়ামী লীগের যারা মাসলম্যান, মারামারিতে ওস্তাদ তারা মোহন মিয়াদের ওপর পাল্টা আক্রমণ করল। আই.জি. ইসমাইল সাহেব স্বয়ং পরিষদ কক্ষের ভেতরে। এসেম্বলী মার্শালরাও ছিলেন। কিন্তু বিভিন্ন কারণে (যা আসির কমিশন রিপোর্টে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে) তারা পরিস্থিতির মোকাবেলা করে শান্তিশৃঙ্খলা ফিরিয়ে আনতে ব্যর্থ হন।

শেখ মুজিব আমার পাশে বসা ছিলেন। অপর পক্ষ স্পিকারের ওপর আক্রমণ করার সাথে সাথে সে তার ব্যাগ থেকে শঙ্কর মাছের হাত দেড়েকের একটা লেজ বের করে। শুনেছি শঙ্কর মাছের মাছের লেজের আঘাতে নাকি ঘা হয় এবং সে ঘা পঁচতে থাকে। স্পীকারের চারদিকে আবু হোসেনের দল হল্লা করছিল। সেদিকে লাফ দেবার আগে আমি শেখ মুজিবের হাত ধরে ফেললাম এবং বললাম – গভর্ণমেন্ট তোমাদের, এসেম্বলি মার্শালরা এমন কি পুলিশের আই.জি উপস্থিত আছেন। কিন্তু মুজিব ঝাড়া মেরে আমার হাত থেকে মুক্ত হয়ে গেল। মারামারি চলছে। সূর্য পূর্ব দিকে না উঠে পশ্চিম দিকে উঠতে পারে কিন্তু যখন মারামারি চলছে তখন শেখ মুজিব আতাউরের মত চুপচাপ বসে থাকবে তা তো হতে পারে না। তাহলে শেখ মুজিব আর শেখ মুজিব থাকে না।২৫শে সেপ্টেম্বর বেলা ১-২০মিনিটের সময় ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে তিনি ইন্তেকাল করেন। পরদিন গিলোটিন করে বাজেট পাশ করার পর অধিবেশন মূলতবী হয়॥”

ঐদিন (২৬শে সেপ্টেম্বর) আওয়ামী লীগ বহু গুন্ডামার্কা লোক পরিষদ ভবনে আমদানী করেছিল। এদের মধ্যে কিছু কিশোরও ছিল। নানা রকম ইয়ার্কি মারছিল। আমার গা ঘিন ঘিন করছিল। পরিষদ ভবনের মর্যাদা চরমভাবে ক্ষুন্ন হল। যাবার সময় তারা পরিষদ ভবনের চারপাশের বাগানের সব ফুল ও কুঁড়ি ছিঁড়ে নিয়ে যায়। এ যেন সুন্দরের ওপর অসুন্দরের এক নিষ্ঠুর আক্রমণ, কলাবনে মত্ত হাতীর প্রবেশ।

Also, it WAS and still IS BD need to create conscription of all able bodied BD men (and women if necessary) and prepare a lethal defense strategy like neutral Switzerland.  We need to abolish and disband this armed forces which are of no use to BD in need.  The armed forces of BD are nothing less than the looters of BD like the politicians through their protected businesses, most secured pre-retirement and post-retirement jobs, and lavish housing complexes irrespective of the condition of the general population and the country's well being.  The future armed forces, for training the conscription populace, should be trained in PMA, Sandhurst and West Point and why not Switzerland.  Indian degrees should not be recognized henceforth so that nobody goes to India for any education whatsoever. We should ban India from all walks of life.  Then only BD shall be able to breath freely and develop itself.  Is BD ready?  If not, you can go on crying in the wilderness. 

So, lots needs to be done quickly.  Please abandon your cries for democracy and please cry for something well tested in BD, the SELECTED Care Taker Govt which has no bad records till now.

আ'লীগ ত বিবেক ভারতের কাছে বন্ধক দিয়েছে ১৯৭১-এ। আর মুজিব-কামাল হোসেন তা ২৫ মার্চ ১৯৭১-এ বন্ধক দিয়েছিলেন পাকিস্তানের কাছে, এবং ১৯৭২-৭৫ এ ভারতের কাছে। 

যে "ঘটনা" গুলির উল্লেখ করেছেন তার বেশীরভাগই ভারতের মদদে, ব্যবস্থাপনায় বা গোপন সামরিক হস্তক্ষেপে ঘটেছে। 

ভারতীয় আধিপত্যবাদ এবং তার সেবাদাস বাকশালী চরম ফ্যাসিবাদ থেকে আমাদেরকে অবশ্যই মুক্ত হতে হবে।
