As far as I know, as long as you use the same EA account, all progressions, saves, etc transfer over. I don't have a battlefield 5 though so I can't 100% confirm it for this game. But I do have other games that I previously have on origin and then bought on steam. Just to be sure, I'll probably install or open the EA app(previously origin), go to settings and make sure that your steam is linked to your EA account. Then buy a copy of battlefield 5. Once you install it, it should ask for you to login your EA account. If your progression carryover, great! if not, then uninstall and refund it.

Hey, I just bought battlefield 4 for $20 from Origin. am I really tied to using their software in order to play? it forces me to use a webbrowser and download plugins... I just want the game, not all this extra crap on my computer.....
