Are you planning to get your lead service line replaced in the upcoming water main replacement project? I called DC Water per their instructions and the person answering the phone at DC Water's lead replacement hotline had no idea what to do! Has anyone else had success contacting DC Water?

Thanks for the info, Rob.

We were also wondering about that. Mehl and I are considering also changing that pipe too.

Have a wonderful weekend and see you guys soon!

Best,
Eddie

We changed ours in the Fall of 2014. Make sure your plumber and DC water coordinate schedules. DC water only changes the line until the curb and then you have to pay for the rest. It cost about $2500-3000.

They need to shut the water down on the street so it's helpful if you give your neighbors a heads up. Once, it's done you need to use filtered water for drinking and cooking (including washing veggies) for six months. DC water gives you filters and pitcher. They then test six months after the lead line replacement. While the results came back within the acceptable level, since I was pregnant we opted to put in a water treatment system for our kitchen sink.

Hope that helps, Alexis

We found that so long as you go directly through DC Water, they'll handle the coordination. Our replacement cost under $1k because the contractor that did the City portion was the same that did the private portion. Saves on mobilization. That really can only be achieved by starting with the City by calling Mike Walsch (number provided earlier).

Best,

Rob
