Dear all,

Has everyone here read the entire book?

We absolutely can't do chapter one, chapter two, chapter three, etc., unless everyone has read everything.  And even if everyone has read the whole book, I don't think beginning to end is the way to approach the book.

My opinion is that we should start at the end and work backwards.

Let me know what you think.

Hi, Cassie. I have read the whole book,
although it is now out on loan to a friend.
Starting at the end would be interesting.
Why not?

I agree starting at the end is a good idea.

We should start somewhere . . .

I'd like to start with why we're all having trouble writing about this book. It's difficult for me because parts of the book creeped me out, but I don't want to hurt anyone's ideal of Jim by saying what I want to say.

parts of this book creeped me out too, but only because Jim's an excellent writer and can do that to a reader.  but, I agree, the book left me speechless.  that's not a bad thing, unless you're trying to write about it.

I agree. Although i read the book slowly the magnitude and power of
what Jim is discussing did
not hit me until the end. I liked what Jim said-through you-about the
zone. I experienced it body
surfing on big waves (for body surfing big. 6 to 10 feet). In
California body surfing is different-
it is what its called. You go down the side of the wave as if you were
a surf board. Its a little scary. If you don't catch it just right you
stay under awhile. So you must be in the zone-not as
intense as surfing i'm sure-but that connection to the water when all
is right really is spiritual. Jim's description you shared is perfect.
Starting at the end sounds wise.

P.S. I agree we should start at the end. I did not find anything
creepy in the book
