Hey all,

I have an iPod that I usually put on shuffle, so I often get surprises
-- pieces that I haven't heard before, out of the blue.

This afternoon I got a surprise chapter from "The Petting Zoo"
audiobook, Part 3, Chapter 3. It is very strange to hear the narrator
reading it . . . very strange.

Insert white noise . . .

I am posting to ask you all about continuity and smoothness.

Does all of PZ seem to hang together? If now, where does it fall apart?

I think it reads smoothly and never falls apart. My only surprise was, i believe intended: The extent to which Billy is overcome by his own demons, his desperation to be back in the zone and his eventual death was shockingly sad and took me by surprise. I knew when i finished that i needed to read it again. Now that i know how it ends i need to read it again to re-read parts i didn't get fully the first time. It's that kind of book.

I would like to read it again, too. My copy is still on loan, though, and I'm not expecting it back anytime soon. My friend, who had never read/heard Jim Carroll, couldn't really get into the novel, but I also loaned her "The Basketball Diaries," which she *is* getting into, so maybe the novel will mean a little more, make a little more sense in light of coming to know the author a little better through his other work.

Cassie, I don't recall thinking that the novel falls apart at any point.
