Hey all,

I created this group so that people who have read Petting Zoo can talk
about it.

I think we should try to organize or discussion so that people can
re-read and think about a specific topic before contributing, kind of
like a book club.

An organized discussion could take many forms. For example, we could
start with chapter 1, or we could pick a symbol or character, or we
could look at different time frames, or we could look at various
social/historical/etc. angles, or we could focus on structure, or . .
. whatever. We can also define time frames for discussions -- like,
we do topic 1 for a week, topic 2 for a month, whatever.

Whattaya think?

I haven't had time to think about it myself since creating the group.
I'm glad to see we have ... more than one member (me)! Heh.

Let me know how you want to proceed, and please encourage others who
have read the book to join us!

Cassie- I like the idea of starting at Chapter 1, discussing it, moving on to Chapter 2, discussing it, and so forth. I know I respond very well to something linear like that.  Within that framework, we could also discuss particular characters, symbolism, etc.
My two cents- Seena

Thanks, Seena!

I'm going to do a separate post about structure to get that out of the way.

In favor of
keeping it non structured and organic. See where people are with the book.
...allow thought forms to create the structure...

I think we need to start out somewhat structured . . . or nobody will
say anything. Cases in point: the three messages that have been
posted here so far about the book!

IMHO

Hi, Petting Zoo fans. Happy to see some familiar faces here (Hi Seena!) and also to hear the various responses to the book. I love the idea of going chapter by chapter, except I promised a friend I would loan her the book and am going to see her tomorrow. Maybe I can find another copy in a library or elsewhere. I appreciated hearing Cassie's interpretation of the book's structure and, of course, hang on her every word of personal interaction with Jim, who was her close friend. He feels like a friend to me, too, even though I never met him. Once my friend returns the book, I plan to read it again; in the meantime, I will follow whatever structure (or not) is decided upon here. I feel so honored to be here among you all and am grateful to Cassie for starting this group. The story is incredible and speaks to the very heart and soul of reality and art.
