I have been bitten more times than I can count. I have discovered that if you put your puncture wound in warm salty water as soon as possible, the salt draws out the infection and you may not need any antibodies.
As for the Dr's, I am not sure if they are required by law or not. All of my bites have been from my own pets, and I don't think they were ever reported. But that was many years ago and in Harris County.
Remember - WARM SALTY WATER! Depending on the bite, I sometimes kept my finger in a bag of salty water for a few days. I can remember taking it with me to work and soaking my finger at my desk while I worked. That was a deep puncture wound. For small punctures, maybe a few hours will be sufficent. I don't like the after effects of antibodies, so I find it much more beneficial to use this method.
