For those of you, like me, got lazy about following issues with our pet foods - I'm putting out a reminder to get back into keeping up.
Since Alex's post, I've been doing a lot of digging around and along with the recalls that I've posted just since then - it's also looking like there is something spreading through the dog food market. If you read just through the posts here: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/pet_care_and_supplies.htm - there seems to be a lot of reports of vomiting and diarrhea throughout several brands....and they seem to be matching up with Alex's first reports about the Nutro - July 2009. The scariest brand in the pattern is Purina....they escaped the big recall - but it looks like whatever this thing is now, they've got it in several brands. Purina having an outbreak of anything just makes me sick - not just for our typical furbabies....but all the exotic pets and zoo animals that get some type of Purina chow.
When we look back at how thing's started with the 2007 recalls - I can't help but see a resemblance in the pattern. It's important that we don't wait for the manufacturer's to announce the problems. If your pet gets sick - get a report logged in on the influential websites. The above one is a good start and then there's http://itchmoforums.com I don't have any other links handy - but I'll post them as I come up with them. If you know of any - please tell us!! And be sure to call the companies, tell the pet food stores and I believe there's a way to let the FDA know as well.
The companies may not have learned anything in 2007 - but I think WE did!!
To clarify - I'm not saying there's anything definite going on....I'm just saying that I see something happening that makes me worry enough to get the word out. Do your own research and then share what you learn! Hopefully, someone will double check what I'm seeing and tell me I'm way off on this....seriously - I hope I'm just seeing a pattern in random. :o(
