Lately I have been a fanatic of e17-desktop, tried out most all distros available, elive, pclinuxos - what doesn't support e17 anymore, mageia, macpup, and as favourite bodhi-linux, what i use as second day-by-day-system., and moon-os from birmia, but what is based on ubuntu9.04...but very beautiful and stable

As I am an opensuse-user, I discovered this petite-linux and like it.
My biggest problem: I can not connect to internet, from my 3G/UMTSmodem, this stuff with connman and ofonon doesn't work, it is not even in the opensuse-repos, the nm-applet - like in bodhi or moonos - is not available to get loaded
As I remenber, this was the same stuff with SOAD-opensuse11.2, another experience with e-DE over opensuse, and thisone never went on

So long

Good Morning Martin,

I thought 3g configuration would be done via the yast2 interface.
However since you brought it to my attention, I managed to borrow two different 3g modems to put to the test :)

Being as I haven't used 3g before, what is the preferable connection method ?

Have you ever used 3g using the connman / ofonon e17 module ?
I already have connman up and working ready for the next petite version, and am going to try the ofono method first.

If I successfully get this to work, would you like to put it to the test? (it will be beta version, 12.1 for now as 12.2 has not yet been released)

Thanks very much for the report,

Robert

Sorry Robert, for a late respond

To configure 3Gmodems, imho,  the easiest way is networkmanager, in kde now called networkmanager-plasmoid, in gnome2 nm-applet.
You get a checkbox to configure stuff for eth0, vpn, wireless and 3Gmodems, only filling in the necessary issues, like provider and telNr, saving and connecting
I remember configure 3Gmodems via yast2 in opensuse, this was related to kinternet in versions 10.x and used wvdial (still possible)
Connman and ofono I never got working, they are not available on petite-linux-cd; even the problem is, they are not in opensuse-repos - at least, I don't find them

So, if you got this to work, let me know how.
If there will be a petite12.x, also let me know, would like to check this one!

Unfortunately it appears that the e17 ofono module does not function, which is a shame, as I had ofono and connman ready and was hoping to add them to the next release :(

I'll take a look at network manager as soon as I get some time

Good Morning,

So here's the thing
nm-applet is contained in the NetworkManager-gnome package (at least in the 12.1 version I'm using)
However the default permissions are dreadful.
You will need root permission to do most of the useful stuff.

I am working on patching up the permissions to something more usable.
There's also a few other issues I need to deal with that are specific to the current 12.1 incarnation.

When done, I will generate an iso and upload it, since opensuse 12.2 release has been delayed for a few months.

Hi Robert,

I downloaded petite12.2- version actually and installed it on my old IBMt23.
As before, no internet-connection with 3g-Modem possible, connman will not work, even with your workaround in the howto-area of your site, giving in root-terminal "systemctl start/enable connmand.service"

Network-Manager is not available, nor quinternet nor wvdial to put the modem at work.
At least, terminal says so.
In yast, I could have the possibility to choose between ifup and networkmanager, on one hand it claims "no smmpd available" on the other "no nm-applet available".
So, what you thhink?
Can I download eg. nm-applet from opensuse.org and copy/install it here to run, and if it is possible, to install/unpack where?

Have a nice day

Martin

Well, ofonod is installed, and should detect your modem by default.

Unfortunately my ofono package is missing the test scripts.
Please kill ofono and restart it on terminal to see if it provides any useful info.

i.e. (as root)
/etc/init.d/ofonod stop
ofonod -nd

If it does work, the network should show up on connman, however I'm unsure if econnman supports configuring the dial parameters.
Also the ofono module has been dropped by the E17 devs approx 1 month ago.

On the package download front, you can download from software.opensuse.org, however that won't cover dependancies.
So for instance you will have to download: wvdial wvstreams and possibly smpppd.
Similarly for nm-applet you will need NetworkManager and NetworkManager-gnome (potential more also).

You may also want to take a look at sakis3g script.

Sorry this isn't working out of the box.
