TheAPA Market Access and Development (formerly Field Services) team consists of full-time engineered wood specialists located throughout North America. These engineered wood specialists include engineers, architects and construction experts who are available to provide information and recommendations to construction and design professionals.

APA's engineered wood specialists work with construction industry professionals who design with, specify, install or inspect engineered wood products (EWPs). Engineered wood specialists are available to assist with questions regarding code compliance, manufacturing, design, specification and installation of EWPs or other questions related to wood-frame construction with EWPs. These services are supported by APA members for the engineered wood industry and are provided complimentary to those engaged with using these materials.

With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Van has cultivated specialized expertise, particularly in roles such as building inspector, plan reviewer, building official, and most recently, chief building official for Clatsop County in Oregon. Van's expertise covers questions related to building codes and regulations. Van services the Pacific Northwest region, including Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Utah. Beyond his professional endeavors, Van and his wife enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing and discovering new destinations. Van works remotely from his residence in Oregon.

Aleeta is a licensed professional engineer in the state of California based in Los Angeles, California. She brings nine years of structural design experience to APA, having worked throughout California. Aleeta has a wealth of wood design experience, including single-family homes, medical and veterinary facilities and several schools in California. She is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering. Aleeta is an active member of SEAOC and ICC in Los Angeles.

Ron Nuttall is based in the Denver area. Ron studied marketing at Texas Tech University before beginning his wood products career working in wholesale distribution in Texas, later relocating to Colorado. Ron has extensive knowledge of the construction and engineered wood industries, having worked in plywood distribution as well as educating builders and designers on the use of I-joists and engineered wood products before joining APA in 2017. Ron continues to support builders with the use of engineered products, including training on fire-resistant assemblies, and a special focus on assisting nonresidential builders with training framing crews on best practices in wood framing for multifamily and other large buildings.

John is an experienced educator in the fields of teaching, construction and personal training. John has a Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California Santa Barbara. Most recently, John cultivated a growing, loyal clientele as a personal trainer, but is eager to get back into the construction industry where he designed schools, churches, offices and senior housing for two architectural design firms, Arkitex Studio and Irwin-Pancake Architects. He is based in Dallas.

Roy is an experienced homebuilder, having worked for over 20 years in all aspects of residential construction, estimating and design, including code compliance, design changes and plan performance. He has worked for Brighton Homes, Trendmaker Homes and, most recently, David Weekley Homes, which are based in the major markets of South Central and Southeast Texas, as well as Indianapolis, Indiana. Roy is based in New Braunfels, Texas, and is a graduate of Lamar University with a B.S. in criminal justice.

Kyle is an Engineered Wood Specialist in the Atlanta area who consults with construction professionals, providing information and recommendations on construction and design. Kyle has a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnical State University and has worked in nearly every aspect of the building industry for more than 25 years. He began his career working for lumber suppliers in the Atlanta area, later serving as a certified inspector for the building departments of two jurisdictions in greater Atlanta, looking at foundations, plumbing, HVAC and framing. Finally, he worked as a site superintendent for two major home builders and most recently earned his residential contractor license.

Noah is an Engineered Wood Specialist based in the Philadelphia area and serves the Northeast Region. He works to provide construction and design direction for the use of APA member company engineered wood products. When Noah joined APA, he brought four years of structural design experience at a national structural engineering firm with him. He has worked with both national and regional builders in the design of both single family and multifamily structures using engineered wood products. Noah is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.

Serving the southeastern United States, Warren consults with and conducts workshops for designers, code officials and other building professionals on best practices for specification, selection and application of engineered wood products. Warren graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering. Prior to joining APA, Warren worked as a project manager for a structural engineering firm which specialized in commercial construction.

When Cory joined APA, he brought over ten years of architectural and structural design analysis experience with a proven track record in value engineering along with him. Cory has spent most of his career working in the prefabricated panel industry as a design manager and project estimator for various facilities located across Canada and has a thorough understanding of engineered wood products and systems. In his work for APA, Cory consults with and conducts workshops for builders, designers, code officials and other building professionals on best practices for specification, selection and application of engineered wood products. His passion for efficiency and performance combined with over a decade of knowledge and experience has allowed him to add value to countless projects throughout his career and his services are part of the many complimentary resources available at APA.

Charles Barnes, an Oklahoma native, graduated from the University of Kansas in 1984 with degrees in journalism and Japanese language. He initially worked at consulting firms in Seattle, aiding U.S. wood products and construction companies in Asia. Charlie joined APA in 1990 as the Japan Representative in Tokyo, where he spent 13 years representing the U.S. industry on Japanese building code and standards committees. He assumed the role of director of APA's International Services in 2006 to oversee global market access and export programs. Since 2010, Charlie has been based in Taipei, Taiwan, where he educates audiences in 28 different countries about U.S engineered wood products and their applications. He is fluent in Japanese and continues to learn Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

The Market Access and Development team conducts education and training seminars and webinars on the above topics and more. Seminars are typically presented to residential builders, commercial contractors, architects, engineers or code officials.
