Hey Everybody!
Tonight's "Guest Artist Series" show at Tony Starlight's, featuring Karla Harris along with the Pete Petersen Septet "Little Big Band", will feature an additional extra-special surprise bonus guest! Sitting in with us in the trumpet section will be none other than the Shanghai Woolies' trumpeter and bandleader, Gavin Bondy. Gavin has also spent the past several years holding down the trumpet chair in the ever-popular supergroup Pink Martini. We're excited and lucky to have him on board.
The Pete Petersen Septet "Little Big Band" 7-piece powerhouse band backs a different vocalist each and every month at Tony Starlight's. This month's featured guest vocalist will be the one and only Karla Harris.
Karla Harris is one of the northwest's local treasures, wowing audiences and earning critical acclaim wherever she performs. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear her performing in front of this powerhouse band!

About the Series: The Guest Artist Series is a new monthly series featuring established area vocalists backed by a "little Big Band" organized and arranged by Petersen. In addition to being featured in instrumental performances locally and at festivals across the western United States, the band has already performed behind several prominent featured guest artists in the past, including Storm Large, Tahoe Jackson, Ellen Whyte and others. This series will showcase a different vocalist each month and is intended to present already-established vocal artists from various genres, performing in a Big Band setting. Artists will perform a mixture of their own material with the band as well as jazz standards arranged specifically for each artist and performed at a very high level of musicianship by this band of some of the top players in the area.
One goal of the series is to introduce audiences to the idea that Good Music performed by Good Musicians is able to transcend the traditional genre-specific labels of "jazz" "blues" "pop" etc. Artists are free to explore the music in whatever way they see fit; pop songs done in a sultry, sexy jazzy style, jazz standards in a funky groove, the idea is to break listeners out of their box, shatter preconceptions and invent something new and hip.
Another goal of the series is to bring new audiences to experience live music performed by seasoned professional musicians; These shows are open to All Ages for the entire first set from 7:30 to 9:30pm. Since many nightclubs are restricted to those who are over the age of 21, students currently have very few opportunities to hear good music performed live. Due to new OLCC changes, minors are now allowed into certain venues during certain hours to see and hear live music performances. We look forward to bringing this music to a new generation of listening audiences!
