Ahoy there!!! Avast ye!!! Tie that scurvy dog to the yarrdarrrm and give 'im fifty lashes!
Yarr, it be approachin' that time o' the yearrrrr again, Septembarrrr 18 is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. And in honor of the momentous occasion, we have several maps to buried treasure, gold doubloons, and other assorted booty! Come on out to your local village tavern and hoist a pint o' grog whilst ye sing old sea chantys with us!
One more quick note of thanks -- we are now #9 on the ReverbNation jazz charts for Portland, Oregon. Top Ten, baby! A big huge THANK YOU to all of you listeners who clicked "become a fan" and listened to the audio clips and everything else you did that helped make that happen. I and my fellow band-mates can make the music, but it doesn't mean anything unless people are listening and enjoying it. Please keep listening because you're the reason we do this.
NOW on to the dates...
Sept 2 (SALEM, OR) - I will be playing in the horn section with the Patrick Lamb Band at the Oregon State Fair. We'll be on the Spirit of Portland stage, doing two shows: one at 5:15, and the second one at 8:45. Come on down to Salem and eat some funnel cake! This band plays with such incredible positive energy, it's not to be missed!
Sept 9 (PORTLAND, OR) This new series we've got going at Tony Starlight's continues with September's featured "Artist Series" vocalist, the ever soulful ms. Tahoe Jackson. Tahoe did a show with the band last winter at the Q Center's Winter Gala fundraiser and absolutely tore the roof off the place. She definitely knows how to Bring It each and every time she takes the stage, this is gonna be great and you don't want to miss this one either. This series is all about crossing genres; it's not a "jazz" gig or a "funk" gig or a "blues" gig or an "R&B" gig, it's all those and more. This is what happens when good musicians from different genres get together and let their muses out to play; We're on a mission to prove that music is music, and that good Music is good no matter what label you stick on it. This series is also ALL-AGES until 9:30, part of the reason we're doing these shows is to give young people a chance to hear some great live music. Bring your families and have a great time at Tony's wonderful venue. 3728 NE Sandy (Hollywood District) Portland, 7:30pm, $8. Reservations Recommended

Sept 16 (MOSCOW, ID) The Pete Petersen Septet with guest vocalist from Boise ID the lovely ms Amy Weber. Amy did one of our Artists Series guest features in Portland a couple of months ago and brought the house down! I decided I couldn't rightly do another Idaho gig without inviting her along for the ride! Amy's got the kind of smoky, seductive voice that will give you goosebumps in all the best ways! This show is part of a dance weekend put on by the Swing Devils of the Palouse, so bring yer dancin' shoes and Swing Out!!! - Moscow Social Club, 112 N Main Street (upstairs from CJ's), Moscow Idaho. 9pm to midnight, $5 for swing club members, $8 for non-members.
Sept 17 (SPOKANE, WA) I'll be joining the band for a couple of nights with one of my other favorite vocalists, the ever-talented Heather Villa and her band 6-foot Swing. The band got its name because all of their regular members are 6 foot or taller; at 5'10 I'll be the band's token hobbit. The music will be plenty tall to make up for what I lack in stature though. This gig is at a pub called The Viking, which brings me to this month's philosophical question: Everyone knows about the debate between Ninjas and Pirates; the usual question goes like this: in a battle between Ninjas and Pirates, which group would win? Well, I'm going to change it up a bit and ask:
In a battle between Pirates and VIKINGS, who would win? Both are ruthless, hard-drinking, looting & pillaging, sea-faring types, both can hold their own in a swordfight... Pirates have the cunning battle strategy going for them and are probably smaller and quicker, but Vikings have berserker rage and huge battle axes. Also, if they're at sea, Pirate ships have to depend on the wind to fill their sails, but Viking ships have those multi-oars and can go full-speed even in calm waters. Pirates have replaceable body parts (hook for a hand, peg leg, eye patch) but Vikings have those uber-cool helmets with horns on them. Also, Pirates bury their dead in Davy Jones' Locker, while Vikings do a spectacular flaming burial at sea. Also if Vikings are lucky enough to be killed in battle, they get picked up by large-breasted women with wings and flown to Valhalla to drink in the Great Hall with all the other fallen warriors. If Pirates are killed in battle, I'm pretty sure they just get thrown overboard to feed the sharks.
I think it's dead-even.
ANYWAY.... back to the dates...
Septembarrrrrrr 18th (MOSCOW, ID) On the *official* talk like a Pirate day, our good ship be sailin' back to Moscow, the home of the Vandals, for another Swing Devils show, this night I be joinin that crass wench Heather Villa and her tall band of scallywags, 6 foot Swing, as we plunder an' pillage the stage at the Moscow Social Club. They still be tall, I still be not, but we'll regale you with a cheery selection of sea chantys for your dancin' pleasure. Yarrrrr...
(do they have an official "talk like a Viking day?") Probably not, we'd have to speak Danish or Norwegian or Swedish or something.)
That's all for now... Stay tuned for future announcements...
