Hi Everyone,
If comfortable to do so, please send polite Letters, emails to the county administrator regarding Brunswick county animal control (AC)
Please please, please stay polite!

Brunswick County Office Directory

1. Please stress the importance of volunteers being allowed to take pictures/videos of the dogs to network for rescue
2. Please share stories of Brunswick dogs that Rescues have received from Brunswick

This is a rural part of Virginia. If the dogs are not networked, there will surely be a rise in the numbers euthanized without even being provided an opportunity to be rescued
I've been a volunteer at this animal control facility for 12 years or more.

Rachel Riley-Hall and Nancy Watson are volunteers also who started helping some years after me and have been on board several years now.
I interact with the dogs, take pictures, try to gather as much information as I can and network the dogs for rescue on Facebook and by mass email distribution

I've brought many dogs, puppies, pregnant dogs to my home for years to prevent them from being euthanized.
They moved on to other rescues

Dogs have given birth in my home. The most recent was an emaciated Pitbull who arrived one day and had 13 babies the next day.
I took her straight off the animal control truck, kept her till her stray hold was up and transported her to rescue (transfer from Brunswick County AC to the rescue)

I've been transporting the animals all over the place to rescues, fosters, etc for the 15 years I've resided in Brunswick County Virginia.
Brunswick County AC staff does not post their dogs. The volunteers are the ones who post & network the dogs

The volunteers are now not allowed to take pictures/videos of the dogs to network them
We all know networking is a life saving measure and critical to prevent euthanasia

I know we can't save them all.

News Media visited Brunswick AC on December 20, 2022, to inquire about the code Red/euthanasia of the dogs
I had no knowledge News Media had planned the visit nor who complained

Again, the volunteers are not allowed to take pictures nor videos of the dogs
At this time, AC staff has been tasked with that duty, but they're not doing it.
They haven't had an interest in posting their dogs during the 12+years I've volunteered there so why now?

FYI, ACO Craig Martin helps when he can, but he's usually overloaded with responsibilities
Per conversation with one of the volunteers, there were five dogs at Brunswick AC yesterday,
Wednesday 12-28-2022 & they didn't just arrive yesterday.

I have yet to receive any pictures/information of those dogs except one posted on Nancy's FB page & also the Friends FB page.

I sent an email to the county administrator requesting to know who said the volunteers can't take pictures/videos because the information has been relayed to me by one of the volunteers.  I've asked several times verbally and in writing to AC staff who said we can't take pictures/videos.  The volunteer responded it's coming from a higher up than Jimmy, the ACO supervisor.

I have received no answer from AC staff nor the administrator
So, the dogs sit there at that facility without networking

How are the dogs supposed to get rescued
Euthanasia has been an ongoing problem at Brunswick AC for years.
Sometimes volunteers are notified prior to, euthanasia, sometimes not and there have been times dogs were euthanized whom we had rescue for.

It's sad that I'm sending this email.

I don't go around bashing animal controls, but there are numerous negatives at the Brunswick facility that need to be corrected & after 12+years of helping,
they still show no interest of improving for the sake of the dogs.

The dogs suffer & it needs to stop.

Over the years, it's been a few steps forward & then fall back.
The clock is ticking for these dogs since this is a 12 dog kennel facility & they usually fill up quickly

I'm not posting code red/euthanasia about the Brunswick dogs anymore, but what happens when the kennels are full???
I realize I'm stirring a hornets nest . This county needs to wake up & do what's right for the Brunswick County animal control dogs.

Thanks
Bev
