Hello,Pongo went to a temporary foster home this week but will be returning to the shelter tomorrow (Saturday). Because of his confinement anxiety, we're able to safely house him here over night so we'd love another foster or rescue to take him upon his return tomorrow.Pongo's foster said that he is doing well overall and showing more of his goofy, affectionate personality every day. He has not been comfortable being crated with the door closed. He will go into the crate on his own to nap, but if confined he becomes stressed and tries to pull at the door with his teeth, which aligns with what he was doing here at the shelter. He now has access to the full room with the crate left open.He is still shy around new people but warms up once he trusts them. He is more comfortable meeting strangers outside than when he's confined in a smaller space like a room.When meeting new dogs, Pongo gets very excited and uses his paws a lot when communicating, which can read as rude to some dogs. With proper introductions and time to decompress, he settles. He has a fun, silly personality and really enjoys being close to his people.Pongo does need time to acclimate in new environments, but once he feels safe, he shines. He already knows several cues—sit, down, paw, high five, and wait—and he even enjoys watching TV.

Meet Pongo
Pongo arrived at our shelter as a stray so not much is known about his past.
Here at the shelter he can be very shy and unsure of new faces but with consistency and time he warms up. Our staff have been working to help him building his confidence every day with kennel breaks and time in our enrichment room. Pongo has made a huge improvement in the short time he has been at our shelter and will now happily greet familiar faces. He is very food motivated making training him a breeze. He appears very dog social outside of his kennel and may do well with a dog housemate if a proper 2 week shutdown is followed. He also appears housebroken.
When staff arrived at the shelter this morning, it was found that Pongo tore open a hole in his kennel door. Due to the risk of him hurting himself he cannot remain in the shelter overnight. We are urgently seeking foster placement or rescue placement for Pongo. Pongo must have placement by end of day 5/12.
