Meet Gaia!
Gaia is a Heeler mix weighing 55.6 lbs. and estimated to be just over a year old.
She was brought to our shelter as a stray after a concerned citizen noticed she appeared to be heavily pregnant. Shortly after arriving, Gaia gave birth to 8 precious puppies on the morning of June 24. Sadly, no one ever came to reclaim her.
Gaia is now caring for 3 boys and 5 girls, and she has proven to be an incredible mom. She is attentive, gentle, and allows staff to handle her puppies without concern.
During her intake, Gaia was found to have a flea infestation and was given a Capstar. Otherwise, she appears healthy. She has also received her Rabies vaccines and has been dewormed with Pyrantel. She is Heartworm Negative.
Because her puppies are newborns, Gaia was understandably reluctant to leave them for her dog interaction test. Once introduced, she did wonderfully. She was a little shy at first, politely allowed the other dog to sniff her, and then was ready to return to her babies.
Gaia is also learning to walk on a leash and is making great progress. She has a sweet, gentle personality and can be a little shy when meeting new people or dogs, but she warms up with patience and kindness. Please help Gaia and her puppies find rescue!
