Subject: Sweetest hospice kitty needs loving arms in desperate end-of-life rescueJoe’s story is one of resilience, but also deep heartbreak.
This sweet 11-year-old gray-and-white tuxedo boy first came to us back in 2015. He was adopted, but 10 years later he was returned when his adopter moved and could no longer keep him. Joe was adopted again this past April, only to be brought back a few months later due to not getting along with the family dog and concerns about litterbox habits.Photo from 2015Now Joe is with us once more—and this time, his health is fragile. He is emaciated, and though he eats, his weight barely changes. He suffers from constant diarrhea—he tries so hard to use his litterbox, but because it’s so liquid, he often dribbles on the way. The surrendering owner reported that Joe had a history of urinating outside of the litterbox on soft surfaces like beds or couches. Here in our care, he has only urinated in his litterbox, though he is housed in a kennel and does not have access to beds or couches. We want to be transparent about his past while also sharing what we’ve seen.Medical concerns are serious: possible lymphoma is suspected, and his time may be limited. Yet even in the midst of all this, Joe remains one of the sweetest cats you’ll ever meet. He adores people—his favorite thing is climbing into your arms, wrapping you in a hug, and leaning in as if to say, “Please don’t let go.”Joe does not deserve to spend the rest of his days in a kennel. After so many years, so many goodbyes, and so many challenges, he deserves a soft place to rest, the love of a caring human, and the dignity of being cherished in his final chapter. We are urgently seeking a rescue partner who will provide Joe with the hospice care he needs, whether it be weeks or months, the shelter is no place for him to spend what is likely the very twilight of his life.If you can help Joe, please reach out. He has been waiting far too long for someone to show him that he truly matters.Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC)
