Subject: Save Nikon's Leg from Amputation!! - Baltimore, MD

- Rescue Needed - Nikon: unaltered female, 11ms, 5.34lbs Nikon came into BARCS as a stray on 8/13 and was found to have a significant injury to her back left leg. After allowing pain medication to take effect, our veterinary team obtained radiographs and diagnosed her with a Salter-Harris Type I fracture of the distal left femur, meaning she has a fracture near the growth plate of her thigh bone close to the knee.   Nikon will need continued pain management and prompt orthopedic care. Her fracture can potentially be repaired by a full-service veterinary clinic or specialty orthopedic surgeon, but this type of repair is not feasible in a shelter setting.
