Melrose was owner-surrendered on 1/2 because her previous family was unable to care for her. Shortly after arriving at the shelter, staff discovered that she had a foreign object partially protruding from her rectum, which required immediate attention. About eight inches were safely reduced to prevent injury. Beyond this, Melrose’s full history is unknown, and no prior medical records were provided.
Melrose is avoidant with leashing and she may attempt to flee if she feels scared. Intake notes indicate that she flailed, rolled, and made frantic attempts to escape when leashed, suggesting a possible flight risk.
Radiographs revealed her stomach contained a half-circular foreign object that required surgical intervention. Melrose has been sent to a partnering hospital for surgery to safely remove the object and address her immediate medical needs. She tolerated sedation for imaging well, demonstrating that she can be safely handled. Post-surgical recovery and ongoing monitoring for mobility and digestive health will be essential.
A full medical summary can be provided upon request.
Melrose deserves a secure, calm, and stable environment where she can recover from surgery and receive ongoing medical care.
