Hello all!
Our first Saturday visit of the year is to the Palace Gardens in Culross on May 29th. Laid on on steep walled terraces overlooking the Forth the gardens are laid out as they might have been in the 17th century, with a fantastic selection of fruit, vegetables and medicinal herbs. (And last time I was there they also had a massive ancient breed of chicken!) The head gardener has offered to show us around. I have arranged the tour for 2pm.
Please let me know if you would like to come along and if you would like to "lift share" either as a driver or passenger - it would be helpful if you could remind me too where you live so I can coordinate.
As well as the Palace there are lots of other things to see in Culross, including an excellent cafe above the Culross Pottery. I am also trying to organise access to another garden next to Culross Abbey where we can go afterwards. In other words, it's probably worth allowing yourself a good three or so hours to have a good look round the Palace gardens and the rest of this fascinating little village.
I'm not sure yet if we will have to pay for the Palace, but it's National Trust for Scotland - so remember to bring your membership card if you have one.
