Salvation through the Gospel
Sin, Righteousness and Judgement

Sin
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. As a result, we are separated from God. There is no darkness found in God at all (1 John 1:5) and without holiness, we will not see the Lord (Heb 12:14). Committing even one sin will make us worthy of spiritual death and alienate us from God. Hence, we see that God needs to intervene in some way to set things right.

Righteousness
Jesus was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification (Romans 4:25). If we believe that Jesus died for our sins and that God raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, then righteousness will be credited to us (Romans 4:24), just like righteousness was credited to Abraham when he believed (Romans 4:22).
2 Corinthians 5:21 – He made Him who knew no sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Romans 5:17 – For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 3:18 – Christ led a sinless life and died for our sins, so that he might bring us to God. Believing in His death and resurrection cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7), and so we can have fellowship with God.
So, we see believing in Jesus’ death and resurrection puts us in right relation with God and allows us to be called the children of God (John 1:12; 1 John 3:1). Thus, we have passed from death into life and escaped the judgement of God because we have heard Jesus’ word and believed the Father who sent Him (John 5:24).

Judgement
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)
Those who believe in Jesus has eternal life, but whoever rejects Him will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. (John 3:36)
There is a judgement coming for those who do not hear Jesus’ word or believe the Father who sent Him (John 5:24).

Conclusion
Those who claim to live in Him must live as Jesus did (1 John 2:6). This is our calling, to be transformed into the likeness of Christ (2 Cor 3:18).
