Our moderator has agreed (I applied phone pressure!) :) that it
seems a good idea to let PCEX members know when we each put something
new in our Offer / Wants list.

There is the disadvantage that we all get more emails from each other
by doing this but it's pretty quiet (too quiet?) at the moment so this
might be a good thing!

What does everyone think? What do we do if too many "new offer, new
wants" messages start to flow, cut it back to the best of our latest 4
additions? (Oh how I WISH we had so many new offers from which to
choose!)

I'll kick it off then! The other day I added:-

Driver, Bus - Truck - Coach - 4WD with Heavy Rigid licence
for all the details, go to:-
http://www.community-exchange.org/skillsearch.asp?searchtext=driver&rxid=PCEX

A reminder that you can make a new message post to the group, at:-

regards
Trev

I do like the idea - it would mean almost-real-time alerts for things.

I think that's a great idea. I'm currently in the UK so I haven't been using it lately but it would be great if there were something like it here. It's really hard being in a place for  only six months as you don't have all the things from home that I used to take for granted- boot polish, an electric toothbrush, slow cooker etc. I have excesses of these things back home. My current situation makes me want to make these things available for travelers and new people to Perth or anyone who needs it. Many of us live a life of excess when there are so many people who need the basics. But that's another issue completely.
Anyway, good idea!
Vanessa.

Oh, this is incredibly slow reply, and if it's too late now, I'm very sorry.
BUT
I just discovered that we members of community-exchange.org can get lots of stats and information about people in other communities all around the world ...
So, Vanessa, if you're still in the UK and still looking for things that you used to take for granted, may I suggest that you log in then click on the "Stats" tab. You might be able to find a group somewhere nearby, contact details and even a list of their offers etc. I haven't tried but maybe you can post a wants list of your own in their group messages. I've extracted a summary of the UK communities and listed them below to give you a head start. There are no contact details in this message for spam / security reasons but we members CAN see them when we log in .. ...

For the rest of us, seems to me that whenever we go traveling, we should make contact with the local community-exchange members and see what trading we can do! Good idea or what? :)

Hi,
Thanks that's very thoughtful, but I got back last week!
I did manage to increase my connections and learn about local goings on over there; freebay was good, and gumtree was very helpful! Freebay I think are international or at least have had some dealing with Oz so ther's lots out there.
Thanks.
Vanessa.

Freebay?  All I get when I type that in (freebay.com) is a "watch this space" type page.

I tried the new search system DuckDuckGo http://duckduckgo.com/?q=freebay   .....
.... got lots of interesting results without the corporate advertising spam, so I reckon the most likely candidate is:-
http://www.freebay.uk.com/
It appears to be nowhere as immediate or active as the local freecycle group ..... for example the most recent message is one on Friday whereas Freecycle Perth http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycleperth/messages most recent message is 27 minutes after midnight this morning (Sunday)!

I gave a sales pitch for us just yesterday to a Freecycler (Marilyn) who came to collect the Agave Attenuata plants that I was giving away and she liked our Perth-Exchange concept very much. She was stunned that she hadn't heard about such a great system, having been a "Freecyclist" for years!  I've since sent her an email about how to join us with links to the relevant web pages. If she DOES sign up, please everyone, make her feel welcome. :)
