Ihave a S8 (bought new) for long time, and today, sundely Pattern lock stop working always says "Incorrect Patter Draw". I'm pretty sure I'm doing it correctly, as it is the same I have on other device. Consider this:

Well, actually @CarlH was correct, although he did not explain completely. But let me go a step back, before giving the conclusion.

After having the pattern not working for 2 days, Finger Print also stopped working, but this time I believe it was security protection that forces you to use your main security option after few usages of other options. At this time I've become completely locked, what to do?

Well, Samsung Account, you are able not only to unlock your phone but ALSO to remove all security protections, making your phone usable by anyone that picks it up. This was actually my solution, but it still had a momentary drawback, as I was completely unable to set any new option to lock the phone (Pin, Pattern, FingerPrint, etc). After 1-2 days and a restart, I could restore my pattern+fingerprint solution working!

But, as soon Ill have to restart it (be that an update or a battert run out), I'l became locked, as it patten unlock at boot is configured! Besisdes, daily I'll have to pickup phone to swipe finger on sendor, and not directy on display as I used to do.

And the thing is... I cant change anything, as any change on this area will require a patern unlock first!!

Help me understand how that Mobile Device Mailbox Policies actually work, when setting up Mobile Device Mailbox Policies I have only enabled simple passwords and set minimal password lenght. But it also allows users to use gestures (pattern lock). I am trying to find some documentation about this thing but it is not documeted anywhere in internet. What else it allows for screenlock ? How to restrict users from using pattern lock (gestures) ?

I have been locked out from my Quest 2 for more that a week. I created a pattern when I was tired so I forgot it when I went to bed and woke up and forgot every day after school I have been trying to reset it I try to connect my phone to the headset and click unlock pattern but still I need to put my pattern in to connect it and as said before I forgot it and can connect and reset it. Is there another solution that I could use and response is very helpful at this point.

** Performing a factory reset is irreversible and will remove all account information, downloaded games, and content from the headset. Performing a factory reset won't remove content you've purchased or downloaded from your account.**

If these functions are not accessible to you, or if these steps do not solve the issue, please submit a ticket and a member of our team will get back to you as quickly as possible. We look forward to hearing from you!

You guys have no idea about this. When you connect the app to the device it asks for your pattern. You can't edit any settings without the pattern. The only option is a factory reset. This needs addressing in the next update!

Why would you guys provide this useless solution??? In order to unlock the device via the app you need to know the unlock pattern. You guys need to hire better developers and need to provide better support that actually know solution that work.

While factory resetting the headset would fix this, we don't like recommending that since it removes all of your other settings and game installs. But, if you're not able to reset the pattern using those steps, it might be good to contact our team directly so they can get some more details about your software build and what might be going on. Here's a link to create a ticket directly with our team to work with a technician. If there's a bug or software issue, they'll be able to investigate it and get the feedback to the right team! Cheers!

The fact is that the page you refer me too gives the same instructions as given in the headset. There are hundreds of examples all over the web of people explaining that it doesn't work.

Please get your own headset, set a pattern, then try and remove it with the Android app. You'll see it doesn't work. It's not mine, it's universal.

@Barnickal Ya, I just tried this as a test with my iPhone and it did not work either. So for those unfortunate people who forget the pattern I guess a factory reset is the only viable option. Same is required for adjusting the Quest home time as well. Oh well, at least a factory reset makes it feel like you just got a new Q2, lol!

Whats even worse is all I was doing was saving a bookmark for a website and it asked me to make a pattern which I did It NEVER SAID that I would need this pattern to unlock my headset at boot up. You can not disable the feature becuase it asks for the pattern to get into your device. I didnt even forget my pattern but it keeps saying its wrong. Oculus PLEASE fix this crap! Make an update so we can connect to the pc or with a mobile app and turn this this lock pattern off so we can get into our headsets. I can do a factory reset but I shouldn't have to. I also have tons of downloads that were not backed up yet and I can't even access these files to copy them before doing a system reset Come on guys make this right

My son set up a pattern lock on his phone and forgot the pattern. His dad tried guessing while he was with him and has locked the phone up for 8 hours. I let it die, then charge it and turned it back on but there was no change. I can't use the Find My Device website because it won't let me sign in without texting a verification code, which I can't do because his phone is locked and doesn't currently have texting. I have tried to even just do a factory reset but nothing happens. I'm guessing this is also because the phone is locked up. Is there any way to get into this phone?

Plug tablet into a computer then turn off device, press and hold volume up+power , release power button only after A7 logo comes on, it will boot into recovery and you can do a factory reset. It has to be plugged into a computer, does not work with a power outlet.

I am not a tech support guy and I am only guessing here. Since this morning, the phone was charging in a wall socket on the other side of the room. That means there is a high probability that either you or somebody else pressed something at some time since it was last charged causing the pattern lock to appear.

I've been trying to find a way to secure a webpage that is easy to do (ie gaining access) yet still fairly secure. So, while a 4 char numeric password would be fairly quick to enter, it wouldnt be very secure, and a 4 char alphanumeric + symbols would take more time to enter in, but potentially be much more secure...

The above article brings up a few good points. Namely the order of magnitude difference between the possible permutations of the pattern lock and the number of character combinations of a text lock...

My initial thought is that the pattern lock will be more secure since it's not a traditional method of entry, requiring a human to enter the correct pattern versus a program that can just brute force the typed password... (Unless of course, you can write a program that simulates user entry. I couldn't figure out how write an app to simulate user input, but that doesn't mean anything...)

Thanks to all for the comments! I agree with you as far as the complexity of the password vs the pattern. (especially on mobile when you can see the streak marks!). In regard to complexity, patterns really cant compete.

The Pattern Lock can be good for convenience, and it may be sufficient to thwart attackers who have not seen you draw it. However, the number of combinations is significantly smaller for Pattern Lock than in typical password. Even if you restrict password to use only characters and use 4 letter password, there is over 400000 valid combinations. However, according to this earlier question Combination of smartphone pattern password, the number of combinations of pattern lock is smaller. On the other hand, pattern has more combinations than 4-5 digit pin.

Note: Password/PIN is easier to use as secret for key derivation functions. For this reason, on some systems, like Android, if you intend to use "Encrypt phone/tablet", you MUST use either password or PIN; not pattern. (Therefore, if you care for the security of your data on the device, you often end-up to use high or mediocre entropy password).

The current pattern locks are inferior to password, but is this inherently so?Amount of choice favors passwords. In password there is anyway tens of characters you can choose in each screen. In pattern, you make choice out of quite few possibilities (different directions). Even if you make grid larger, it is hard to make pattern as efficient as password.
