Had RG35XX a couple days, been playing fire red while waiting for an SD card to arrive. Arrived yesterday, installed garlic, is there any way to transfer my save data? I put in an impressive amount of time onto it considering how long I've had it...
Hey fellow Gameboy user!
So, I'm trying to get a .sav file from my computer onto the Mini Supercard SD.
I loaded the Pokemon Fire Red rom onto the SD software, went into the properties, and input the right .sav file, but when I open it up on the Mini Supercard SD, the game loads and says the "The save file has been deleted"
To use a downloaded save file, you must rename the sav to have the same name as the ROM. I.E: poke.gba will load poke.sav. You must also set the cartridge save type in the emulator options to be the same as the sav file.
never changed it, is already on autodetect. I feel like it simply deleted the .sav file; it by itself is almost a third of the space of a single save state. So, if there is a way to change a .ssx file into a .sav without corrupting it, I think that could fix it.
I know cheats are not possible in retroarch so I tried to use my gamesave (.srm) from retroarch to open in VBA 1.8.0 so that I can use some gameshark cheats. It seems VBA only reads (.sgm/.sav). Renamed the files and still get the error.
it should definitely be possible so long as it is a game save and not a save state. Also you might wanna check and see what the filetype suffix is (eg. file.sav etc.) when using retroarch. There is a save tool for pokemon which I know can change between different save types used by emus and the actual gba itself, so make sure the one from vba and retroarch have the same filetype first of all.
Okay, I know it's not possible to transfer pokemon from Pokemon GBA games (Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed and LeafGreen) to Pokemon D/P/P games thru Pal Park because DeSmuMe only reads GBA roms, not save files (GBA Slot).
I've figured out how to make the migration option to appear when using DeSmuME (current v0.9.4). As you probably know this emulator supports GBA-NDS linkage since some builds ago. However it was not working for Pokemon D/P/Pt so far. Migration is still NOT possible though (save corruption message), but you get the benefits of "dongle method" (depending on "inserted" GBA ROM you get additional pokemon in-game).
i dont think we forgot to include it. i am pretty sure this was developed and tested specifically for pokemon. Is the sav file named exactly the same as the rom, and in the same directory? e.g. pokemon_leaf.gba and pokemon_leaf.sav
I just found a way to successfully migrate pokemon from FR/LG/R/S/E roms, I use this method on pokemon HeartGold but probably it will work on Platinum too. So, this is how I did:
-before loading the NDS rom, insert 1st the GBA rom on the GBA slot then load your game. But make sure that the GBA rom you inserted has atleast 6 or more pokemon deposited on the PC, and also make sure that you have .sav file of it. Then...
-at the start menu, you can see the "migrate from [pokemon version of your choice]" button. Click it.
-Just keep pressing YES then it will show you all the pokemon deposited on the PC of the pokemon GBA rom you inserted, choose only 6 pokemon.
-it will start transferring the pokemon as soon you choose your 6 pokemon to be stock in the Pal Park.
-if the transferring of pokemon failed, it could only be means: (1) you left the cheat codes from the GBA rom activated, it must be deactivate first then save; or (2) you used too much AR (action replay) codes that may cause the GBA .sav file to corrupt.
First, let's make some things clear: a game is a "rom" (for simplicity), it's the file that ends with ".gba". Do not confuse the rom file (game) with the patch that ends with ".ips".
The patch brings modifications on a rom, in this case it modifies the pokemon rom to insert the new data in it (new dbz characters, maps, musics...etc). And there is the save file that records the data of the party, it ends with ".sav".
By the way, the pokemon rom must be the good version which is 1.0. It is often named "1636 - pokemon - fire red version (u)". If you want to make sure that it's the good one, check the checksum (if you know how to): the CRC 16 is 56CF and the CRC 32 is DD88761C. You can find the rom on the website soi13.com or somewhere else, search for it on google.
Why does the game keep restarting ?
You patched the wrong version of pokemon fire red. You probably used the version 1.1 that is not the good one, you have to use the very first version of fire red instead: 1.0.
Do I need to start all over after updating ?
No! you don't need to. After applying the new patch (to the same rom as usual that is pokemon Fire Red US), just rename your current save file (.sav) as the rom file. Both files must have the same name. Then, you can run the game and play with your save.
The cheat codes are the same as in Pokemon Fire Red, nothing has changed. More information can be found on the wikia (and the thread of pokecommunity too), there are some links for the list of the pokemon codes, the fighters IDs and other stuff. Make sure to do a copy of your save before using the cheats, play it safe.
New in BGB 1.5.3 (2017-03-04) - Accuracy improvements, including: pokemon (all versions) now has correct TID for speedruns. Fixed a large number of bugs and problems, including: "uncoverable direct3d error" on some Optimus laptops. Added improved support for automation/commandline use. Significant performance/efficiency improvement with most roms. Added support for loading RTC .sav files where a timestamp in the future does not (incorrectly) advance time.
