We're trying to migrate our personal network shares to individuals' OneDrives. However, we run a tight ship on storage so I have limited free space on each VDA (about 5 GB). My initial thought was to utilize the File On-Demand feature, but it looks like that may not be possible on Windows Server 2012 (please correct me if I'm wrong). The only other thing I can think of is to point the default location to another on-premise location; and while that would save disk space on the VDA, it would defeat the purpose of using the OneDrive client as we would ultimately be storing it on-premise AND in the cloud.

Because of point (6) above, I've tried to use guides like this one, this or this one to recreate (or check) OneDrive default folder on my PC or to force-rune OneDrive client from it. It brought no effect, again.

To get the most out of Drexel OneDrive, it's best to use the OneDrive for Business sync client. It is available for PCs running Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 through Software Center (see below) for Drexel-Owned Computers only. With the OneDrive for Business sync client, all of your files residing within your Drexel OneDrive folder will be automatically uploaded to the cloud. As you make changes to the files on your local computer, the changes will be synced to the cloud right away!

While the OneDrive for Business sync client can also be downloaded from the Office 365 website, Drexel has a special set up that ensures full compatibility with our systems and with Microsoft. Thus, Drexel IT will only support Sync Clients that are set up through the process below. College of Medicine, College of Engineering, and LeBow College of Business users should check with their respective IT Departments to see if they are eligible to use the sync client in their current configurations.

Some College of Medicine, College of Engineering, and LeBow College of Business users are under their respective school's configuration and may not have the Software Center application installed. Those users will not be eligible to use the sync client at this time.

Once you have confirmed that you have the System Center client installed on your computer, open the Software Center application. Within the list of applications available to download, you will see Microsoft OneDrive Sync Client. Select the application, and choose Install. The software will then download and automatically install. Windows 10 users may already have the client installed, and can simply skip to the next step.

For those running Office 2016 or Windows 10, OneDrive is already built-in so there is no need to install the client. If you do not have OneDrive installed, you can get started by downloading and installing the OneDrive client to your computer.

Starting from July 2023 SHA1 support is being phased out in OnedrivePersonal in favour of QuickXorHash. If necessary the--onedrive-hash-type flag (or hash_type config option) can be usedto select SHA1 during the transition period if this is importantyour workflow.

Before rclone 1.62 an SHA1 hash was used by default for OnedrivePersonal. For 1.62 and later the default is to use a QuickXorHash forall onedrive types. If an SHA1 hash is desired then set this optionaccordingly.

As a rule of thumb if nearly all of your data is under rclone's rootdirectory (the root/directory in onedrive:root/directory) thenusing this flag will be be a big performance win. If your data ismostly not under the root then using this flag will be a bigperformance loss.

A subset of these connected experiences is also available in Office. If you choose to use connected experiences, required service data will be collected to help keep these connected experiences reliable, up to date, secure, and performing as expected. You can access the privacy controls within your Microsoft 365 and Office client apps. These privacy settings allow you to configure your connected experiences. For example, you can choose to enable connected experiences that download online content, but not connected experiences that analyze content. Turning off connected experiences will also turn off additional experiences, such as document co-authoring and online file storage. But even if you use this privacy setting to turn off connected experiences, certain functionality will remain available, such as syncing your mailbox in Outlook, as well as essential services described below. Outlook applications. It's just occurred to me that I might be able to use an office application to Save As the file to the necessary onedrive folder, where the keyboard shortcuts are pretty stable, but have no idea how to achieve that via the command line.

The OneDrive client app adds file synchronization and cloud backup features to its device. The app comes bundled with Microsoft Windows and is available for macOS, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S. In addition, Microsoft 365 apps directly integrate with OneDrive.

Microsoft has released OneDrive client applications for Android,[16] iOS,[49] Windows 8,[14][32] Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile,[50] Windows Phone[49] Xbox 360,[51] and Xbox One[22] that allow users to browse, view and organize files stored on their OneDrive cloud storage. In addition, Microsoft also released desktop applications for Microsoft Windows (Vista and later) and macOS (10.7 Lion and later)[52] that allow users to synchronize their entire OneDrive storage with their computers for offline access, as well as between multiple computers.[53] The OneDrive client for Windows allows users to "fetch" the contents of their PCs via the web browser, provided the user enabled this option; macOS users can fetch from a PC, but not vice versa. The Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8 versions also allow camera photos to automatically be uploaded to OneDrive.[22] Upon the re-branding as OneDrive, the Xbox One app also added achievements.[54]

In addition to the client apps, OneDrive is integrated into Windows 8.1 and later, Microsoft Office 2010 and later, as well as the Office and Photos hub in Windows Phone, enabling users to access documents, photos and videos stored on their OneDrive account. OneDrive in Windows 8.1 can sync user settings and files, through either the included OneDrive app (originally called SkyDrive, until the name was changed with a Windows update[55]) or File Explorer, deprecating the previous Windows client. Along with the use of reparse points, these changes allow files to be accessed directly from OneDrive as if they are stored locally. The OneDrive app was also updated to include a local file manager. Unlike on Windows 8, use of OneDrive on Windows 8.1 requires the user's Windows account be linked to a Microsoft account; the previous OneDrive desktop client (which did not have this requirement) no longer works on Windows 8.1. Additionally, the Fetch feature does not work on Windows 8.1.[22][53][56][57]

In an update on July 4, 2017, OneDrive desktop client started showing an error message to the effect that the local OneDrive folder must be located on an NTFS volume only. Other file systems, including the older FAT32 and exFAT, as well as the newer ReFS were not supported. Microsoft further commented that this was always the requirement; it had merely fixed a bug in which the warning was not displayed. Microsoft also denied this feature having anything to do with the forthcoming OneDrive Files On-Demand.[58][59]
