Could I please ask farsiweb people and Behnam upload the farsiweb fonts and XB series fonts to CTAN?

Thanks

Yours Sincerely,

Right now, I think Iranians have more in mind than downloading fonts.

There's no more development for X Series 2 in foreseeable future. My
concern was that if it was distributed from sources other than IRMUG,
it might spread some buggy fonts in the cyber space with no chance of
update. And god knows we have enough of that!
The other concern is that I don't want them to be modified without
the name change. If you want to make them better, fine. But change
their names. Computer (and user) should not be confused over
different fonts with the same name. The general understanding of open
source philosophy doesn't apply to the fonts. That's why SIL
International has developed a better open source license agreement
specifically for fonts. I favor this license.
In terms of copyright and licensing, I understand that I can claim
copyright over whatever *I* did on these fonts. Which is basically
total structure and built of the fonts. The only thing I can not
claim copyright is the original character design which has often been
modified but not designed. I put in the font info the information
about the original designer wherever I could find anything about it.
With this in mind, these fonts are made to be used by everybody. I
won't upload them to CTAN, which I didn't know what it was without
googling! but by all means, help yourself!

it does not make sense to me. What are you talking about and what does this have to do with uploading fonts to CTAN? and what does Iranian downloading fonts have to do with uploading fonts to CTAN?

If anyone upload the fonts to CTAN (as other authors do like junicode and linuxlibertine font authors), whenever you fix a bug, you can upload the updated version of the fonts to CTAN.

Who wants to change them without changing their names any way? In fact, CTAn people are very strict on licensing, copyright and intellectual property.

Is not it clear to everyone?

Is not it clear to everyone? and that is what LPPL is all about.

True. In the past I uploaded some of the sil's fonts to CTAN. I could do the same but I just wanted to ask. If you do not like uploading them to CTAN, then that is fine. No need for offending me and puuting my character down!

Thanks for the reply. That makes it all clear why you wrote such response.

Best Wishes,

Your quick reaction shows that it does make sense. Very deeply.
But you are quite right. It doesn't belong to this list. I don't know what CTAN is. Some sort of source for users to download fonts. Isn't it? Uploading there is for downloading it consequently or am I mistaken?
Either way I explained the situation of these fonts lengthly and to the point, as best as I could. You only took my opening line. This in itself is quite telling!
Short of it, you do not need my permission to upload X Series 2 to CTAN. Look at copyright and licensing situation that I described and if it fits the bill, help yourself.
