Thesaurus of Persian Words and Phrases

A new version of the Thesaurus of Persian Words and Phrases (farhang-e teyfi, version 3.0, summer 2012) is now available for downloading at

The new version is the result of four years of work after the draft of print version of the book published in 2009 and includes additions and amendments increasing the coverage of the book by 25%. 

The hardback version was printed by Hermes Publishers, Tehran, 2009; “Farhang-e Teyfi”; 

Farhang-e Teyfi is based on Roget’s model of English Thesaurus which lists words in one semantic category irrespective of their grammatical / syntactic constituent type such as noun, verb, adjective and adverb – i.e. all these are grouped together under one category (of meaning).      

My next project is to produce an Android app of Farsi synonyms.

Hello Jamshyd,

Thank you very much for sharing this valuable thesaurus. I think there is an issue with the encoding of the pdfs. It seems that the farsi character of ی has been replaced with the Arabic ي using the software you used to layout the pdfs. Same goes for the ک. That is more of an issue if someone tries to search the pdf. For example if someone searches the word خوردنی it wouldn’t show any results but if they search خوردني it shows the word.

Thanks a lot for the info. I generated this pdf file more than 5 years ago from a Unicode Word document but somehow the 2 didn't work well together. I suggest you try my work in progress wiki site: http://www.farsisynonyms.com/. I plan to work on a new pdf after the new edition of the book is out.
