A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Ambon,
Maluku, on Saturday morning, causing people to rush out of their homes
and offices to open fields to avoid aftershocks, Antara news agency
reported. The earthquake struck at 7.04 a.m. Western Indonesian times,
or 9.04 a.m. local time. Its epicenter was located at 97 kilometers
northeast of Ambon, at the depth of 72 kilometers below the sea level.
After the quake jolted, people rushed out of their homes and offices
to open fields. Some of them even avoided the Ambon beach fearing the
