I am writing to inquire if there is any way that a read-only file can be edited in AutoCad. I am using AutoCad 2004 on a drawing that was created in 2002, probably using the 2002 version. If you can help me with this, it'll be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't know anything about MAC, but surely there's a way to change the Read-only attribute for the file,.... or else save the drawing with a different file name (SAVEAS) and then make your edits on the new drawing file...

well I've got two days to my deadline and i have to have major tiny detailes on my building section (architecture is the biggest mistake of my life) like staircase joints etc, but to fasten the process and all nighters.....I've got a CD which has simliar detailed drawings but i need to edit them and relate it to my building.

Ok, lets be sure you understood my suggestion. Open a new blank drawing. Use the "insert" command. That should bring up the dialog box below (or at least it's Mac equivalent). Find the file you want to insert by using the browse button, set the other stuff as needed, and then click the box next to "explode" in the lower left corner. Hit ok, and that should bring any drawing you have into the new one and allow you to edit it.

If that don't work, you may have to borrow a friend's PC to finish your assignment. I have 3 or 4 different sets of standard details and parts catalogs from curtainwall manufacturers, literally thousands of drawings, and they are all read only. I insert them into drawings every day and go right on. Being set to read only keeps me from accidentally screwing one of them up when I am scrolling through them looking for just the right one to base a new extrusion or assembly on. I'm bad to get caught up in it and forget to saveas, you see.

if they have been copied from a CD (or accessed from a CD) the will be set as read only by the operating system (CD is considered RO). Check with windows explorer that the file isn't showing a read only and reset it if it is.

I need to be able to view various groups of layers, for example, all electrical layers only, and then possibly switch to my plumbing layers only. I though that by creating layer group filters this would happen when I selected a group, ie plumbing group would display just the plumbing layers. Is there another simple way to do this, or do I have to set up layer states and switch that way?

I was interested by your solution, although I haven't yet tried it, I can imagine there would be problems. For example, how would I know if there were any clashes, until I they are xref'd in? Also, I have received drawings with dozens of layers, some that would be of interest to me, others, furniture etc, that would not. These are not xrefs, so I'm a little confused.

I'm making a floor plan for where I live (nothing big, just getting practice) and last week while drawing lines somehow the lines would only continue at certain angles. This is great......but now its off..and I'd like it back on!!

I entered "line" and picked the start point, then length, then side (say to the right) and it went X-units. Next I moved the curse up towards 90 deg and it seemed to snap at 30-60-90 degrees and i could draw at these angles, but not a random one between (say 12.8). How can I set this so it "snaps" to the 30-60-90 ??

This is Polar Tracking ( F10 ) i guess that restrict cursor tp specified angles . see below image and select what you need also from Tracking settings you can check and add what you need. also make sure that you Autosnap is ( F11 ) ON .

Just be aware that Polar Tracking does not restrict your drawing to only those angles, the way Ortho mode restricts it to only orthogonal directions. It "locks" onto those directions when you get close to one of them, but you can still draw in random directions in between -- just not random ones that are too close to your defined angles.

But you can also use dynamic input ,, start command _LINE, pick start point ... then AutoCAD let's you enter the length or press to enter an angle ... now the angle is fixed and you can modify the length using the cursor or keyboard.

This plugin needs to be able to be used by other users, i think im not referencing dll files properly or something as the program only runs successfully on my computer (and all computers that i have opened the solution in visual studio and built to the export folder). Copying all the files shown in the folder above to the same path on another users computer doesn't work, other users get an error stating 'Could not load fil or assembly "c:/info3d/info3dreloaded.dll" or one of its dependencies. Operation not supported. Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)'

Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication method that allows users to log into multiple services and applications using the same credentials. Specifically, Autodesk allows users to seamlessly log into multiple Autodesk products and services using their organization's user credentials.

Enhanced security - SSO uses a single point of authentication, where passwords are received and validated only by the identity provider. This approach reduces the possibility of poor security practices such as writing down the passwords, as users are required to remember only a single password.

I'm new in using Sophos Central and Intercept X. I want to make a rule that will "allow/block/confirm" .dwg (autocad) files to be tranfered. How can I do that. So only for the dwg files. Other files should not be bothered.

Hi There,

Thank you for reaching us, For you be able to set up the desired rule you wish to apply to your environment. We'll be sharing this documentation for the explanation and the instruction on how to set up rules.

May 8, 2015 - Release 2.2.0
New
Import Tasks. The Tasks allow to repeat any import process so many times as desired without needing to enter its parameters again
Management and execution of Tasks in the application palette
Note: Tasks are available on the "Professional" edition only
New SPMSETCRS function to assign a coordinate reference system to the drawing
Automatic assignation of the drawing coordinate system when a new table is imported
Automatic assignation of the exported objects coordinate system based on the drawing coordinate system
Integration of the application drawing coordinate system with the AutoCAD coordinate system (valid for Autodesk products v.2013 to v.2016)

Improvements
The application now supports AutoCAD 2016 and other Autodesk 2016 products
Option to select "Polygons" (MPolygons) as the type of object to use when importing polygons Note: available for all compatible Autodesk products (even on basic AutoCAD) except for any v.2010 product
When importing a table defined in "WGS84 (SRID 4326)" the transformation to "WGS 84 / Pseudo-Mercator (SRID 3857)" is selected by default to get a projected map
The default name for the layer in which a table is imported is now the name of the table
The fields whose value starts with "http" are automatically converted into links in the "Properties" area of the application palette
New language added to the application: Portuguese (Brazil)
The configuration windows for the licenses have been sorted and optimized

Fixes
Fixed a bug that causes some SRIDs no were recognized correctly
Now you can load seamlessly SQLite tables from "My Computer"
Fixed a bug that allows the introduction of wrong serial numbers (valid for other Spatial Manager apps)

March 13, 2015 - Release 1.0.5
New SPMEXPORT command! (new "Professional" edition only) Export from AutoCAD to Google Earth (KML or KMZ), Shapefiles (SHP), Points (many formats), MapInfo, PostGIS, SQL Server, SQLite and many more
New SPMIMPORT command to directly open the import wizard without having the Palette open
The import wizard allows you to ignore the Z coordinate for all imported objects
There are two new column in the UDSs wizard, indicating if the data provider is valid for reading (Import) and/or writing (Export)
The ribbon of the application has been expanded and reorganized and now includes the new commands
Now, the Zoom extents at the end of an importing process is performed only when the drawing was empty
The type of alphanumeric Fields are now stored, enabling to respect the data types when exporting the objects
Optionally you can convert the coordinates of ASCII Points in data of the imported objects
Now the possibilities to create, rename or delete Schemas and Tables depends on the application edition
In the coordinate transformation process the user is warned if any additional file is needed and how to get it
Now the application try to define automatically the source Coordinate System
The target Coordinate System is automatically selected if the objects to be exported have the same SRID
Added a button in the import wizard to go directly to run the process, skipping any remaining intermediate step in the wizard
Fixed a bug that left the import wizard locked when the data sources were slow to load
Now when the application warns the user that the coordinates are not transformed between identical source and target CRS, there is no additional confirmation
The ability to rename UDSs, Schemas and Tables inside the import wizard itself has been removed, because it was confusing and not very practical
