Note: This episode does not take place during Summer Vacation.Tropes present:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal:
  • Dink Winkerson, the announcer for the hockey game, uses a lot of this in one sentence.Dink: And the blare of the buzzer brings down the metaphorical curtain on this scintillating second period of this titanic tussle as the grim gritty Gladiators vacate the frozen field of flailing fighting flugelhorn, to prepare for the third period of this Tulican turf toast towers, as the frosty Defibulators mill the frozen peas of icy... Oh, man, I'd better go lay down.
  • Also, the Hockey Z-9 announcer (later revealed to be Isabella) uses this:Announcer: This is the harsh hybrid hockey of your dark dystopian destiny!
  • As Himself: Former left wing for the Los Angeles Kings Luc Robitaille appears as the referee for the game.Luc Robitaille: Is anyone else cold? Why is it so cold in here?Audience: We don't know, Luc Robitaille!Man in audience: Actually, I brought a blanket. So, I'm okay.
  • Brick Joke: Earlier in the episode, Baljeet points out that Canadian bacon is only ham. Later, when Linda takes a picture, she tells everyone to say "Canadian bacon", but instead, everyone says, "Ham!"
  • The Cameo: Django plays ice hockey with the boys. That's right, he's actually in this episode.
  • Continuity Nod: Buford recalls Football X-7 when Phineas and Ferb plan on creating Hockey Z-9. The song also uses the same melody from the original episode.Baljeet: What happened to Y-8?Phineas: Oh, we're saving that for croquet.
  • Continuity Snarl: Doofenshmirtz, who gave up evil in "The Last Day of Summer", is still evil in this episode, even though it should takes place after the summer vacation. Like last time, (and the following episode), the creators likely didn't think of the series finale.
  • Everything Except Most Things: When Phineas and Ferb create a sheet of ice and set up lines and hockey goals in the beginning of the episode, Baljeet says "It is like our own miniature Canada! But, of course, without the beavers, moose, and disproportionate amount of comedians".Phineas: Or Canadian bacon.Buford: I forgot all about Canadian bacon.Baljeet: You realize it is only ham.
  • Moose and Maple Syrup: The evil jingle for this episode is "Doofenshmirtz Evil Igloo on a Mountaintop, eh?" Also, Baljeet lists several Canadian stereotypes such as beavers, moose, and disproportionate amount of comedians. Twice in the episode, they referred to Canadian bacon as being nothing but ham (which isn't strictly true, but it's more like ham than it is like side bacon).
  • Noodle Incident: When Doof accidentally aims the inator at Perry's marshmallow trap, he calls it "all marshmallow-y and hairy... Not completely unlike summer camp."
  • Playing Cyrano: Candace knows absolutely nothing about hockey, but she wants to impress Jeremy. So she has Stacy feed her hockey facts to her on her phone headset. Unfortunately, Stacy is having a conflict with her sister, Ginger, so Candace ends up doing a Repeat After Me and saying everything that Stacy says to Ginger.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title "For Your Ice Only" is based on the expression "For Your Eyes Only".
  • Same Race Means Related: Ginger and Stacy, the only recurring East Asian characters, appeared independently of each other for three seasons before they were revealed to be sisters in this episode.
  • Shout-Out:
  • The title is a reference to the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.
  • The Abominable-inator is covered by a very large scarf, and Doof sheepishly admits that it's because "I had some yarn". Of course, this episode was co-written by Josh Pruett, who is a noted Whovian, and the scarf is almost identical to the one worn by the Fourth Doctor.
  • Sibling Rivalry: A very small example with Stacy and Ginger. It was Ginger's turn to have the computer, but Stacy needed it to give Candace information about Ice Hockey on her date with Jeremy. This causes Candace to tell him things that don't make any sense, and her disguise is ruined.
  • To the Tune of...: The "Hockey Z-9" melody uses the same melody as "Football X-7".
  • Tongue Twister: Doof has difficulty revealing the name of his inator, since "Abominable" is such a hard word to say. He then breaks down each syllable "The-a-bom-in-a-ble-in-a-tor", but then separates it into two words, "The Abominable... inator".
  • Transformation Ray: Doofenshmirtz's evil plan for the episode involves the use of "Abominable-inator", which makes whatever it hits "bigger, hairier, and scarier", to make himself more intimidating as a yeti. In his fight with Perry he accidentally hits himself in the butt, turning it big and hairy, before he eventually transforms completely starting with his feet changing next, though its effects are ultimately temporary. Like most episodes it ends up erasing the boys' activity for the day, making an ice-polishing machine big enough (as well as hairy and a little scary) to completely remove all evidence of Hockey Z-9.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Ginger warns Stacy, "Don't make me pull a can of whipped cream on ya. Or however that goes."note It's a can of whoopass.
  • Variations on a Theme Song: This episode begins with a special winter-themed theme song with much different lyrics from its Christmas edition. Candace complains that Phineas and Ferb are making yet another alternate theme tune.
  • Visual Pun: Monogram doesn't know what Doof is up to because all of their computers are frozen. We then see Carl at a computer covered in ice.Carl: Tech support says everything is fine.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Isabella uses a deep masculine announcer voice to introduce Hockey Z-9 (a Continuity Nod to "It's a Mud, Mud, Mud, Mud World"), and she even says, "Thanks, Dink" in her normal voice afterward like the original.
  • What Are Records?: Candace wants to get her mom to bust the boys but her stepfather informs her that she went to the gift shop to get a disposable camera.Candace: What the heck is that?(cut to Linda at the gift shop)Linda: It's a camera that you send away to get the film part developed, and then you take the non-film camera only part and you throw it away.Clerk: What the heck is "film"?Linda: Would you please just look in the back?

Taking place in the city of Danville, each episode usually contain 3 intertwining stories. Part one follows the daily lives of Phineas and his step brother Ferb as they spend their summer vacation inventing contraptions for having fun with their friends. Another storyline follows their older sister Candace, who constantly attempts, and fails, to thwart or "bust" her brothers' shenanigans.

The third part follows Perry, Phineas and Ferb's pet platypus, who is secretly an agent of O.W.C.A. ("Organization Without a Cool Acronym"). Under his codename Agent P, he is assigned to battle Doctor Doofenshmirtz, an evil and rather pathetic scientist who repeatedly tries to take over the Tri-state area; he's either defeated by Perry or his own stupidity. Usually, the outcome of the battle between Perry and Doofenshmirtz indirectly causes Phineas and Ferb's inventions to disappear[1].

The show received 4 out of 5 stars with an appropriate watch age of 5 years old or above from Common Sense Media[6], a website dedicated to helping parents know if a cartoon is safe for their children to watch. The show also received an 8.0 rating from more than 16,000 users on IMDb[7] and an 8.1 rating from 1,326 votes in TV.com[8]. The show has also been nominated for 26 awards and has won 7[1].

Since its premiere, the show has gained a significant following online. The Phineas and Ferb Wiki currently contains more than 2,600 articles about the show[9]. Fanfiction.net currently has more than 6,000 fanfics based on the show[10]. The Phineas and Ferb subreddit, founded on February 27th, 2010, currently has more than 1,100 subscribers as of April 2015[14]. On the artist Community site Deviantart, the key word "Phineas and Ferb" yields more than 71,000 results of fan art and cosplays[11].

Eyeless Phineas is a series of fan art which depict Phineas without his eyes. The fad originated in the episode "Excaliferb" in which, due to an error, Phineas's eyes disappeared for a few moments when he blinked[13].

My Name is Doof is a memorable scene from the episode "Phineas and Ferb Musical Cliptastic Countdown"[12], where Doofenshmirtz tries to hypnotize the audience by using a video that is scientifically created by him to get stuck in people's heads. The scene has since spawn remixes and Youtube Poop type videos.

There is no show quite like Disney Channel's Phineas and Ferb. From its premiere, the show established itself as being in its own league. Phineas and Ferb are step-brothers whose only goal is to make all one-hundred and four days of summer vacation the best they can be.

From building rollercoasters to going to space, the boys and their friends Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet took every day as a new challenge making the most of every hour. Their older sister, Candace, took the opposite approach, spending her vacation trying to bust her brothers for their inventions. All the while, Phineas and Ferb's pet platypus, Perry, secretly worked as an agent for O.W.C.A, the Organization Without a Cool Acronym, thwarting evil scientist, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
