Astandard cyberdeck is about the size of a paperback book, is made of plastic and weighs about half a kilogram. It features six (6) interface ports for adding additional options, and (6) output ports for "jacking in" other people (who are considered "passengers", as the owner of the deck is the only user able to take control of the unit). Every Netrunner starts their career with the standard deck.[2]

Cyberlimb Decks are even more compact, about the size of a cigarette pack. These decks are installed directly into a Cyberlimb, and hardwired into the body using the I/O ports of the Cyberlimb, eliminating the need for additional wires and power sources. This hardwired option can be dangerous, however, as no-one can disconnect you, and you'll just burn.

Combat Assault Decks: These decks feature full metal/ceramic construction, making them resistant to impacts from either bullets or blunt trauma. Most combat decks are designed with portability in mind, and are able to plug into any phone line.

A standard deck has only one memory module, capable of holding 10 memory units (MU); has a speed of 0; and a data wall strength of 2. While these values might not be significant at the start of a Netrunner's career, they will want to be be able to improve their deck as soon as possible.[2]

Trode sets are self-adhering electrodes that allow you run the Net without plugs. They are slower than plugs, but don't have any cost to humanity. 'Trode sets are commonly used by both amateur Netrunners, and "tourists" visiting the net.

Keyboards allow a Netrunner to indirectly use a deck. Unfortunately using a keyboard is extremely slow, even slower than using a 'trode connection, but it protects against anti-personal attacks.

After the DataKrash, the way the Net works changed dramatically. The net is now made up of closed-off intranets called NET Architectures which a Netrunner must physically get close to to access. To operate a Cyberdeck, a Netrunner is required to have Interface Plugs (which also means getting a Neural Link). It is also recommended that a Netrunner uses Virtuality Goggles, which layer an augmented reality view of the NET Architecture over their physical surroundings.

A Poor-Quality Cyberdeck with 5 Slots can be purchased for 100eb, a Standard-Quality Cyberdeck with 7 Slots can be purchased for 500eb, and an Excellent-Quality Cyberdeck with 9 Slots can be purchased for 1,000eb.[3]

Programs are installed onto a Cyberdeck using compatible slots. They are programs that can be activated within NET Architecture. A type of program is a Black ICE, which is an advanced program that is used to patrol the Architecture. Netrunners can use a Cyberdeck to bring their own Black ICE into the Architecture to combat enemy Black ICE. Black ICE takes up two slots in the Cyberdeck.[3]

Hardware are additional devices attached to the Cyberdeck using compatible slots. Hardware can boost the performance abilities of the Cyberdeck or increase the strength of the programs stored on it.[3]

Cyberdecks are a type of Operating System in Cyberpunk 2077, that allows its users to perform Netrunner abilities such as quickhacks and Breach Protocol. Cyberdecks come pre-installed with device quickhacks, base RAM, a buffer size, and several antipersonnel quickhack slots. The type and amount of pre-installed device quickhacks varies per manufacturer and increases at higher rarity.[4]

In order to perform quickhacks, you require base RAM. Once a RAM unit has been used, it will take 60 seconds outside of combat to recover. The amount of RAM a cyberdeck has varies per manufacturer, model and rarity, and can be modified by perks in the Quickhacking skill tree in the Intelligence attribute or by installing Frontal Cortex cyberware.

Update 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077 fundamentally changed a lot of the hacking mechanics, making the cyberdecks in the game have even more distinct effects. Though this makes it harder to rank them, as what is best is often determined by individual playstyles, each model of cyberdeck offers unique strengths. V has a wide variety of choices, but some of the decks still stand out as being superior to others regardless.

The Militech Paraline is the cyberdeck that V starts with in Cyberpunk 2077 and can be upgraded to Tier 5++ with some patience and eddies. It is not anything extremely flashy, yet when upgraded to max stats it can be a powerful deck. It is not good for stealth, but for run-and-gun players, this cyberdeck is a good one because of the extra damage buffs.

In addition to the above stats, the Militech Paraline MK.4 can add +10% damage to quickhacks and +2% Monowire damage per used RAM unit up to +30%. If V uploads a quickhack to an enemy, shooting them with a smart weapon will accelerate the upload speed. Finally, if Overclock is active, any smart weapons and Monowire will give additional electrical damage equal to 60% of the normal attack damage.

The BioDyne MK.2 is only a Rare quality level, but it is a good deck to have early in the game. It only costs 10,000 eddies, and it has more benefits than any of the comparably-priced cyberdecks that V would be able to get early on.

The Stephenson Tech MK.4 has a handy legendary effect of reducing quickhack upload time by up to 25%. This is in addition to allowing V to perform quickhacks on targets and devices while scanning them.

With this deck, quickhack cooldown is reduced by 45% and any combat quickhacks will last 50% longer. Essentially, with all of these boosts, V can quickly perform hacks before anyone knows they are there.

Although it's only listed as Epic rather than Legendary, the Biotech Σ MK.4 is useful enough to be listed above a couple of the Legendaries as far as rank. With the changes in Update 2.0 to Cyberpunk 2077, this deck is powerful for combat, particularly in adding 10% damage-over-time to quickhacks and a 60% duration increase to combat quickhacks.

Biotech Sigma MK.4 will also add +25% Monowire damage against enemies that have been affected by any damage-over-time effect, and whenever Overclock is activated, it will reset the duration of quickhack damage-over-time effects, which when timed right can effectively double the durations.

The Arasaka MK.5 at Tier 5++ is a good cyberdeck in Cyberpunk 2077 for those creating a stealth build. Its extra benefits all work towards making V harder to detect, even offering a 100% increase in how long it takes enemies to trace V's location.

In addition to those stats, the Arasaka MK.5 adds a -2 RAM cost for any covert quickhacks and +5 RAM added after successfully performing a takedown. Essentially, the Arasaka M.5 cyberdeck makes stealth easier, and using that to take down enemies in turn rewards the player with the ability to perform more quickhacks.

Updated February 16, 2024, by Sean Murray: The best Cyberdeck in Cyberpunk 2077 is the one that speaks to your preferred playstyle. Whether that's swinging a monowire, shooting a Smart gun, or just opening portals to the Blackwall, there's a cyberdeck out there for you. We've updated this guide with the latest info for Cyberpunk's 2.1 update so the Cyberdeck you pick is the right one.

The Biotech Σ series is all about increasing the damage-over-time performance of your quickhacks. At tier two you get 15 percent additional duration, at tier three you get 10 percent more damage-over-time, and at tier four your monowire deals an additional 25 percent damage to any enemy affected by a damage-over-time effect. At tier five, a well-timed Overclock can help double the duration of every quickhack dealing damage over time.

The downside of the Biotech Σ is that damage-over-time means the enemy is still alive and shooting while you're waiting for the poison (or fire or shock or bleed) to finally kill the gonk. It's far more efficient to just kill the gangoon up front rather than wait for their clock to run out.

The exception here is against bosses that have a lot of HP. Since bosses have too many hot points for even an ultimate quickhack to bring down, boosting your damage-over-time effects can dramatically shorten the fight.

If you're looking for a jack-of-all-trades Cyberdeck, look no further than the Paraline. This steadfast Cyberdeck provides a little bit of everything with a particular benefit to wielders of Smart weapons. You get a little bit of quickhack damage and a boost to your monowire damage, but at tier five, activating Overclock provides a flat 25 percent damage bonus to both your Smart weapons and monowire.

The tier four benefit shouldn't be entirely overlooked either. Most enemies will simply die after shooting them with a Smart weapon, but boss enemies and cyberpsychos have the hit points to survive a full clip. Against these enemies, faster upload speeds can help clear your queue and let you unleash more quickhacks faster.

If you want to spread some love, the Raven Microcyber is your Cyberdeck. With an increased spread distance of 40 percent and instant uploads to all enemies within range, the Raven Microcyber will make your Contagion quickhack fill entire rooms. Then it's just a matter of uploading Overheat to the nearest choom to watch 'em all go boom.

There's nothing subtle about the Raven Microcyber. This Cyberdeck won't get you into places faster or more quietly, but it will kill lots of people very efficiently. You won't even need to spend eddies on bullets.

From one of the least subtle Cyberdecks to one of the most subtle. The NetWatch Netdriver encourages netrunners to infiltrate enemy security systems to upload quickhacks through cameras. Doing so reduces your traceability and RAM cost while increasing your quickhacks' damage and effect duration.

Once you gain access to a system, it's game over for every guard in the building. Just cycle through cameras and upload whatever damage quickhack you prefer (Short Circuit usually does the job, but every netrunner has their favorite). Not every security system is easily penetrated, but that's why every netrunner should be prepared to climb a fire escape now and then.
