#PlantedForBill — Saturday 15 October — 3-5pm

Bill Mollison wanted everyone to plant a tree when he passed. If you do, please spread the hashtag to accompany any photos #PlantedforBill on social media.

We'll be joined by horticultural educator and permaculture gardener, Emma Daniell, for our Saturday afternoon special #PlantedForBill garden volunteer PermaBee. We'll be planting out the Zone 5 bird habitat area.

WHEN: Saturday 15 October
TIME: 3-5pm
WHERE: Permaculture Interpretive Garden at the 
Randwick Community Centre, 27 Munda Street Randwick

PROGRAM

Arrive 3:00pm...

  • Remembering Bill Mollison
    Russ Grayson will take us through the life of Bill with slides
  • Identifying bird habitat plants
    Emma and Fiona will explore the existing garden to show you what native plants you can include in your garden for pest management and attracting bees
  • Planting out
    Emma will demonstrate planting out then we'll be planting in memory of Bill Mollison
  • Afternoon tea
    Afternoon tea will be provided.

Bookings not required.. just pop in! Just bring hat, sunscreen, covered shoes.

Wet weather: If there is wet weather the PermaBee will be cancelled.

An incorrigible optimist, Mollison wanted to restore the Garden of Eden

Bruce Charles Mollison, agrarian rebel, creative practitioner, teacher, writer, ecologist and co-originator of permaculture, has died aged 88 in Hobart.

Known as Bill, he was a man of discerning gruffness, with a love for story-telling and massive charisma. As a global gardener, he was innovative, far-sighted and practical, and at the same time dedicated to the problems at hand for as long as was necessary for a solution to be found. 

Mollison – the "father of permaculture" – leaves behind a worldwide movement of remarkable resilience. Permaculture books are printed in many languages, taught and practised in almost every country of the world and found on websites in at least 110 languages. 

Growing up in Stanley, Tasmania Bill left school at 15 to help run the family bakery and in coming years worked as a shark fisherman and seaman, forester, mill worker, trapper, tractor driver and naturalist….

FREE Permaculture: an introduction 5 session course

Good food (maybe home-grown), energy and water efficient homes, good company and a constructive approach to living... these things are the essence of the permaculture approach to life.

At this five-part workshop were we will learn how to permaculture-ise our lives by taking a journey through the permaculture design system. 

We’ll explore:

  • energy and resource efficient building design with architect Terry Bail
  • water efficiency with water consultant John Caley
  • ood and how to produce our own or to buy the good stuff with landscape architect Steve Batley as he takes us around the Permaculture Interpretive Garden at Randwick Community Centre
  • the new shared economy – collaborative consumption with Annette Louden and how to declutter your life with Cecilia Macauley.
