Hi Emily and all the wonderful HB Permi people

 

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night at Mangarara Lodge 298 Mangarara Road (first road on the right after crossing the bridge at Patangata.

 

I have watched a bit of the Power of Community documentary which is a bit dated but the principles still apply of building community resilience when fossil fuel availability and economic constraints limit food availability and many other things that we take for granted.

 

We won't spend too long on the documentary if that is OK with everyone because the discussion is too important and we want to hear everyone's voice.

I suggest we work through the framework provided by Wise Response - "When the Trucks Stop - A community mutual aid guide for fuel-constrained New Zealand"

Topics Include;

            1/ Food

            2/ Water

            3/ Energy

            4/ Transport and Mobility

            5/ Health and Medical Care

            6/ Economic Mutual Aid

            7/ Communication and Coordination

            8/ Governance and Decision Making

 

For those who would like to look around and give feedback on the Mangarara Regenerative Agrihood plans please arrive by 6pm and everyone else arrive whenever for a 7pm start.

Patricia Iversen is hosting a dowsing workshop on 18^th April in Hastings- she’s asked me to forward info to this group. The workshop is being run by the wonderful Hella Coenen, who used to teach at the Steiner Kindergarten in Havelock North, and allowed our original permaculture group to start meeting there, about 18 years ago I think!

 

Unfortunately there’s a date clash with the trip to Setha’s but in case anyone is interested, please see the attached poster for more info and contact Patricia to join the workshop on 027 676 2828 or patricia...@gmail.com  (Pls don’t contact me, I’m just the messenger!)

Thank you to those who were able to attend the power of community resilience meeting at Mangarara Station this time last week. 

I attach my transcription of the discussion that took place for everyone's record, especially those who could not attend. I hope all details have been captured accurately, but please don't hesitate to reply all if any points require clarification. 

Please have a look at the action points, go into your community and meet with your neighbours for a catch up, start forming the support networks that will help us all support each other should the situation around us worsen.

Attendees have volunteered their details at the end of the document in the interest of setting up hyperlocal resilience hubs.

Thanks for these fantastic notes. An incredible capture of the wisdom, experiences and ideas the were shared at our gathering. 

Thanks everyone for coming, I hope this inspired action to localise and build resilience and connection in our communities.

We can contact with each other via the email addresses shared. Would there be interest if we created a Hawkes Bay Power of Community WhatsApp group that you could opt in if you wanted? Or is there a better platform to share experiences and questions on?

Im fortunate to be attending the NZ Permaculture hui this weekend so will be offline until Monday night. 

Hope the storm passes over us this weekend without damage.

Trying to get together 10 volunteers for the inaugural Waipawa community dinner. We have 3 so far, so looking for another 7 keen doers. Once we have the volunteers we will schedule a planning meeting.

Hi Sherryn

Thank you so much for such comprehensive documents, I think they are inspiring and invaluable as an aid to getting prepared for all sorts of scenarios, not just the one we were focussing on during the meeting.  I have and will be forwarding this on to other friends who I think will be interested but may not be part of HB permaculture. Getting this out to the wider community seems a good idea.

Meanwhile, I wanted to wish everyone well and safe over the next 24 hours and hope that Aotearoa comes through this next crisis in relatively good shape.
